Google makes their money off of searches and information. So yes, they are desperately trying to get more devices into your home for you to search from and give them more info they can sell.

Of course we all have our own opinions, but I thought I would point out a few issues here.

On Google, "skills" are called "actions" and they have many of the same - often with more functionality. Alexa definitely has far more third-party skills, but at the cost of functionality, usability and a far inferior assistant - and they're largely a band-aid fix to Alexa's shortcomings as Amazon tries to catch up in AI. Amazon's take is "Want to know something in particular? Talk to that skill because Alexa can't help."

Google purposefully tries to avoid forcing people to set up actions. I just say "hey google, start movie mode" to turn off all the lights around our living room and hallway, dim the ones around the TV and turn on the TV if it's off. I didn't have to do any fancy set up in third-party skills/actions for that.

Also, the Home Hub is technically perfectly capable of pulling up video from Wyze cams, but Wyze just has to build the action first - just like they built the skill for Alexa. It's really easy for them to do, but the feature won't exist until Wyze builds it. Since the Home Hub is pretty new and it's the only official video-enabled Google Assistant device, it's not surprising that many third-parties haven't linked up to it yet. You can bet it's coming.

As for smarts, that's what I personally want from an assistant and the Google Assistant is just miles ahead of the rest, which isn't much of a surprise considering information is Google's bread and butter. There's just no comparison.

Try figuring out "Who plays the guard in Shawshank Redemption that helps Andy Dufresne?" - Google spits out "Clancy Brown plays the main guard", while Alexa gives me three different wrong answers (telling me who Tim Robbins is, giving a one-line summary of the movie, or telling me that Guns n Roses plays "The Garden" because it thinks I said "who plays the garden" instead of "who plays the guard in"). Cortana and Siri failed equally miserably.

Asking "Which 3D printing filaments are water-soluble?" results in Alexa just not recognizing that I asked anything at all or hilariously saying "Sorry, I didn't get that, but here's something fun: would you like to know what the hottest song this week is?" Google actually gives me an elaborate and correct answer about PVA filament and its uses.

All of this (and our Google calendars and the fact that it knows which of us is asking) is why we don't talk to Alexa or Siri anymore in our house and just ask Google everything.

the device just saves me from pulling out my phone and typing the same search. so, they aren't actually getting more info from this device then they normally would. its an ease of use thing.

You honestly can't give the google home minis away at this point. The market is so saturated with them.

How do I get the 2nd mini in my cart? It keeps refreshing and going back to one.

Never mind, I see it is a "Kit" of 2.

Ordered it and will receive it tomorrow. I ordered the BB&B dealof Hub + 1 mini and it is notcoming until Monday which is too late for me and will now be going back to the store.

Thnx OP!

I own a Mini (got one for 99c through the Spotify deal) and I like it. The speaker is surprisingly good for a device that small. I would love to get a Max when there is a deal on it.

I am still on the fence about the Hub.

Personally, I think the screen size on the hub is too small, you can't really see anything unless your close to it. I wish if was 10" screen like the Show.

Got the Hub on Thanksgiving through he Lowes deal. Love it. Wouldn't pay full price for it, but at the price I got it, makes a fantastic alarm clock. Love that the display adjusts with ambient light. So when I turn off my lights at night to go to bed, it does not annoy my wife with a bright LED display of the time. It's big enough so I can watch YouTube TV on it if I want to catch the tail end of a game in bed. Got the free mini through the Spotify deal and it worked well for the "broadcast" function with the Hub.
