Republic Wireless 20 GB 4G/LTE data for $25/month, 256 kbps throttle unlimited data

Republic Wireless recently announced their new data-only prepaid sim card, which gives you 20 GB per month of 4G/LTE data, and 256 kbps unlimited throttled speeds after. Available in 30day ($30/mo) or 90day sims ($25/mo). This is twice the monthly data allowance than Mintmobile offers with their 10GB/$25/mo plan. At these rates ($1.25/GB), it could be used in a hotspot device for home internet instead of traditional wired broadband such as Comcast/Qwest.

According to Republic Wireless's recent blog post above, the new data-only sims run on AT&T or TMobile's GSM network (LTE bands 2,4,12,66,71), which is different than their traditional Sprint network partnership.

Another official RW post regarding this new plan. Their fullfillment department (Amazon seller) may be delayed/offline during to the holidays.

NOTE: 256 kbps unlimited throttled speeds is also higher than other wireless carriers, it supports very low resolution (180p) video streaming, and pretty much most other basic internet browsing & audio streaming should be fine.

Not sure it replace Comcast internet at home with so much IOT things and TV streamings. But definitely good for backup hotspot devices.

Agreed, it may work for people who are single and on campus/work most days. By the way, looking for cheap cable, I got xfinity for 19.90 a month if you set up for automatic payment and buy your own modem. Very easy to setup (you do the same you would with an xfinity modem, call to have then activated) and I get about 20mbs. Had that for over a year and very happy with it. Sorry to hijack op, great deal on that cell plan. Thanks for sharing.

This is perfect for my laptop when I go to places where Sprint coverage sucks, but AT&T and T-Mobile coverage is good.

Keep your eyes on your bill, it will jump to more than double after a year.

Does the 90 days start ticking the second you activate the card. Or can I use it for a day now, and wait 6 months before I start using it again?

Interesting that they don't offer a similar plan for cell phones. I wonder if that's next?

Would this service be fast enough to use with an Xbox in an RV ?
Also could I use Google Hangouts for voice and text ?

No it would eat right through your data. If your Xbox needed a update or you git a new game. It would be gone instantly anyways
