Beware: Bestbuy charges restocking fees (I think 20%) if you return a lens. I wouldn't buy lenses from them for that reason as I don't want to pay 20% if I change my mind or receive a bad copy.

This happened to me. The open box lens was not in the condition I was expecting (ordered on-line) and Best Buy wanted to charge a restocking fee because the lens was opened. Well duh. It's an OPEN BOX item. Never again.

I guess mentioning it as Used/open-box is a better description than just naming it as open-box. You can get used ones for similar price on eBay or other forums.

I don't see why you can't get an exchange or full refund if it's broken. Shouldn't matter if it's open box or not.

I kept it. The lens hood was loose, but everything was working fine

They still wanted a restocking fee. Not worth my time fighting the issue. I'm just never going to buy their open box items again.

Hmmm. That seems pretty bad, but I'm assuming the manufacturer would warranty it. For reference, Best Buy can't charge a restocking fee by law in the following states: AL, CO, HI, IA, MS, OH, OK, SC.

Was this in store or online that you were attempting to submit the return? If online, did you speak with someone or did an automated system warn you that a restocking fee would apply?

Bestbuy openbox condition has great variations. Personally bought two excellent open box lens from them before. One was in excellent condition, while the other was really beaten up. Also bought an excellent open box monitor from bestbuy last year which had a crack in the lcd panel...

How do you buy open box online? When I look it up it says "in store only."

That's why Bestbuy has so much refurb stock. Many people will claim product is defective to avoid restock fee.
