Xbox Live Gold 12 Month $35.99 (YMMV)

I went to the home screen of my Xbox last night and saw an ad for renewing my subscription for 12 months for $35.99 (it was set to expire May 2019). It seemed like a good deal based on what I see on SD, so I bought it and it extended my sub a year as expected. I then cancelled auto-renew immediately after and this morning got the same ad for the $35.99 for a year and was able to do another year.

FYI - the ad was on the main home screen and had a pixel art picture of two people on a couch and read "40% off 12-month renewal" (which I thought was supposed to be the normal $60 price, but apparently not).

Where? I looked, thought $60 was normal price.

is this just for renewals of existing xbox live accounts? or can new accounts take advantage of it? Just got xbox, haven't signed up for live yet.

I'm so sick of seeing this posted, but mainly because it's never on my dashboard! My subscription expires in January so I can't believe I'm not targeted. Still hoping it'll pop up...

It was posted yesterday for sure, the thread got big. It's been posted weekly since the deal first started. Since it's targeted the thread usually doesn't get too big since most people don't see the deal.

I bought six months last month and turned off the auto-renew, which made the ad pop up. I just cancelled the auto-renew again (from my phone) and was able to get to the purchase screen (on the Xbox) for another 12 months at $35.99, but it said I couldn't buy any more time on my current sub.

I've been doing the $1 a month almost every month for over a year.

They keep saying 'new customers only' but it works for me
