It's my understanding that Amazon phones all have their bootloader locked so there's no way to root.
No such Amazon phone...
This is generic unlocked version sale on Amazon

You sure about that? Description says Prime exclusive & Amazon apps pre-loaded - sure smells like one to me.

Few years ago, there were some Amazon lock ad screen phone with prime special price, but soon Amazon provided Amazon app removing the ads out of lock screen.
Nowdays, many generic unlocked phone comes with Amazon apps, but all can be removed or disabled easily

Locked bootloader and unlocked carrier are not the same thing. This phone does have the bootloader locked but you can disable the amazon apps but not remove them.

Stylo is a mid range phone.

I'd buy a used LG G5 or G6 from ebay, it costs about the same or less and you get a flagship phone with better camera, better resolution, better RAM and snapdragon 820+

fark LG Stylo.

Can't speak for the service even though I have it (using for emergency), but I've heard that even though they don't officially support BYOD android yet, putting their sim card into an unlocked android phone works fine. There might be small quirks here and there depending on brand of phone but flagships should be okay.
I did a SIM swap about 14 months ago with a Moto X Pure, and it only worked for a month before Xfinity blocked me. I don't know if that has changed. I would love a Pixel 3 on Xfinity, but I'm doubtful that it will work. Their official claim is that unlocked iPhones will work but not Androids.

GPU isn't even in the same league, and NAND performance aren't comparable. G6/G5/V20 are better for games and even audio. G7 is close to $300.

The Stylo DOES offer newer bands, newer battery, and a warranty. So there's that.

I have the LG Stylo 3 Plus and really like it but the Stylo 4 does not have removable batteries which is a deal breaker for me.

With a few extra batteries, I never have to worry about running out of juice and never have to plug my phone in anywhere.
Why don't you just carry an external battery pack? I use one with 10050mAh when I know I'll be out for a day or two without easily-accessible electricity, and it seems more convenient and economical than buying extra/swapping the phone battery. Even though my phone DOES have a user swappable battery, I still chose an external battery pack.

I'd have to agree after doing much reading up on the matter, so many of these budget phones these days would get smoked by 1 or 2 year old cheap flagship phones... I have an LG V20 I got cheap back in the summer that I've been working the kinks out on, and with a 3rd party google camera port the picture quality is now amazing and extended batteries or swappable ones are possible on it. Even been considering a used flagship LG G5 as a backup phone since it still has great specs, and iirc actually a better quality front cam of 8mp vs the 5mp on the v20 for whatever reason. I always thought the bottom loaded batteries in the g5 looked kind of cool, could pick up two extra ones fairly cheap to swap to be instantly reloaded...or honestly, these days, big capacity portable batteries have gotten fairly small and lightweight so that's definitely an option to.

Basically after doing my own research, used flagships for around $100 or so destroy all these newer more expensive budget phones with way worse specs and way worse cameras. I'm working on moving away from expensive iphones, I have a feeling the ones I have now won't have too much support for much longer, whereas even somewhat old android nougat phones will have support for many many many more years due to android fragmentation, that I used to think was horrible, but in hindsight it actually keeps old devices useful for longer since iirc half or more of all androids in the world are on 6.0 marshmallow or older. After testing out both platforms, a cheap moto e4 sufficed for me as a daily driver in a pinch even.
