Not a monitor expert, but I see this is a VA panel. How does this compare with IPS and is IPS significantly more expensive?

IPS has much better color accuracy and is better for reading text and for photo/video work. Only Samsung makes VA panels and they tend to have a very loose subpixel arrangement that makes them bad for text. VA contrast is higher than IPS and for gaming and watching videos though and for VA tech is preferred by many.

I have bought and compared many ultrawides and tend to prefer the IPS panels for their overall picture quality. Each person is different though. I suggest you try them out yourself and compare directly.

Paid 500 (I think) for this about 2-3 months ago. This price makes it definitely worthwhile

Thanks so much for your reply! Any chance you know of some ultra wide models I should be on the lookout for a deal?

I would still consider it. Better stand, better warranty, and a 4 port USB hub.

You'd need to be looking on the higher end for IPS with 100+hz refresh rate.

IMO the Alienware aw3418dw is the best you can get. The PG348Q is also a nice IPS UW at 100hz.

Unfortunately, ultrawide support in gaming is garbage.
This is bs. Have had mine for years and there's rarely ever an issue.

Ouch. Those are in the $700+ range. I game a little but mostly read, research, and program so clear sharp text is important.

Play more games then. Have fun editing .ini files, playing with regedit, and installing hacks to get games working. And it's not just old games that dont work, plenty of 2018 releases had garbage ultrawide support out the gate.

I have been looking for a G Sync monitor but they are so expensive ($600 - $800 on sale).

When I saw this deal I decided to go with this freesync monitor instead because even though I'm running an Nvidia RTX 2070 - and would like the GSync - I have had great luck with Acer monitors in the past and this is very cheap in comparison to other monitors (including other Free Sync and G Sync versions)

Others users purchasing this monitor report overclocking it to 118-120 Mhz - so I figured at $399 there isn't much to lose for an ultra-wide 34" 2k Monitor.

So since you have one - do you recommend it? Why or why not?
