Don't forget if you are taking a SW flight you can apply for the personal card in flight and receive a 50k bonus after 2k spend. That plus business card gets you your companion pass for a total of 5k spent.

And actually 'best' time to apply would have been mid-October-ish... then wait 2 statement cycles before spending on them, do all reqiured spending after dec statement cuts and before Jan cuts... once Jan cuts and points post, get CP by mid-late-Jan and get yourself a full 23+ months with CP.

If your business is paper thin, do not call, work the chart.

When all else fails call.

If they send you an email to call, ignore, work chart, then call

There will be two types of calls.
One is a call to make sure you applied for the card. You will need to give them account numbers for other credit cards, etc. They will not ask about your business. This is an easy call

The second type of call is tougher. They are going to want to know about your business and why you need the card. If you go the eBay route, just explain you need to keep track of business expenses for taxes. If you are only claiming 2,500 of business income, you should be good to go.
If the rep will not approve, Hang Up And Call Again

If the Rep is being difficult or telling you he is going to send you something, etc. and you get the vibe he is not going to approve, you can end the call yourself. Just explain you have a customer waiting and will have to call back and then hang up.

Never say anything about being denied. Pretend this is the first time you have called. Generally you say you are calling to check on your application status for your business card. My accountant has told me to get the business card to better track my tax deductible expenses.

All calls must be made to the reconsideration department.

On Average 5 Call Backs to the reconsideration line May be necessary for a thin paper business card

Last year it took me 15-20 call backs to get the business card

Be sure you have a verified Rapid Rewards account that you can access online before you apply for the business card.
I would also call Southwest to verify the Rapid Rewards account is in open and in good standing, and ready to receive points.

I'm in the process of doing this as well. Just a heads up, if you're not immediately approved, you will get a letter asking for a form of your business (i.e. utility bill with your company's name on it). As the poster mentioned, it's essentially 2 years of bogo flights (minus the tax and service charges). Best time to do it. Thanks for posting!

I have 40k SW points accumulated, my companion pass expired last year and I decided to cancel the SW Plus credit card this past Dec.

Am I still eligible for the companion pass if I open a SW Business card to get to 110k? Any suggestions?

It depends how long ago you took advantage of the promotion on any personal card. Its 24 months before you can do it again.

Remember if you are a current cardholder or have received the signup bonus in the past 24 months, you aren't elgible. I canceled my southwest card and applied two days later and got denied because they said I already had an existing card, even though it had been canceled. After calling them to complain, as far as I can tell, you have to wait a longer period of time before re-applying, although they refused to give me an exact number of days. I waited slightly over 30 days, reapplied, and got approved instantly. YMMV

You would have to earn the 110K this calendar year. But if it has been 24 months since you got your last promo you can do it again. Youll have the 40K you already earned to spend using your companion pass but they would not count towards the new companion pass.

I believe you have to wait a month before you can apply for the same card you just cancelled.

24 months since getting the card, or since getting the promo points? Thanks!
