They both can do 9.2 with internal power. 3080 you can add an external amp for 11.2 (or 7.2.4 Atmos) while 2080 is "limited" to 5.2.4

Crap. Of course I just ordered the 2070 for $900 and thought that was a deal. Now I want this 3080...

Good deal

I'll return the 2070. Decided to go with the 3080! Thanks for posting.

Any major differences between the 2080 and the 3080 besides the 10 extra watts?

ESS SABRE PRO ES9026PRO Ultra DAC on the 3080 versus ESS 384 kHz / 32-bit SABRE Premier DAC ES9007S x 2 on the 2080.

It may not seem like a lot, but generally the audio equipment that has ESS PRO (flagship) version of this DAC costs significantly higher. The audible difference is subjective.

Will these receivers be able to support 4-ohm L/R/C speakers?

If I don't care about all the bells and whistles features, is this worth it just for getting a lot of clean power to make speakers sound nice? If I'm using speakers like the ELAC B6 or UB5, will I hear a difference between this receiver and the $300-ish lower powered options?

From Adorama I jumped on 3070 deal a few days ago (about $999), to replace an Onkyo 818. However, after hooking up, every input had a visual flicker and the audio dropped out. Reconnected the Onkyo and everything was perfect again. That was sent back and I got a 2070 because they were out of 3070s. It has the exact same issue. I thought Yamahas were supposed to be reliable...I was about to order the Marantz SR7012, but maybe I'll take a chance on the xx80 series and hope for the best. Anyone else heard of these HDMI issues? Maybe I was just unlucky with two units.

Firmware update? Crappy HDMI cable?

You might be experiencing difficulties as a result of your HDMI cables. Perhaps the new receiver is trying to put out a higher resolution to your TV? I had some issues when it came to getting 4K to work well between my Yamaha and LG OLED. I changed to higher speed HDMI cables and things worked reliably in 4K. I think I used 18 ghz cables.

I did the firmware update. Used the same HDMI cables that ran perfectly on the Onkyo...
