Seems kind of annoying to have to buy two versions for iPhone and iPad, as opposed to the usual cross buy.

Two different versions to pay for? Haven't seen this done in years ... no buy from me for that reason alone

Wife used this. Loved it, great customer service, app updated, missed syncs with Microsoft immediately after, customer service blamed wife, wife reset and did everything as told by customer service, still had issues with some syncs with Microsoft, more missed or double booked appointments, customer service stopped responding. All correspondence from wife was tactful. On BusyCal now without a hitch for 4 months or so. The OP deal is a great price, app has a beautiful interface, but if you're a Microsoft customer then maybe be weary of missed items on one or multiple of your device's calendar. There was never a problem syncing other calendars, including ones I shared with her.

What's the difference with Google Cal and Apple Cal apps? Will appreciate thorough review.

Have it for iPhone, will it sync automatically with my iPad if I pay for the iPad version?

Yes, Fantastical accesses the same calendars you've synced in your iOS Settings. So as long as iOS on your iPad is setup with the same calendars as on your iPhone, then you'll be golden.

Pretty good calendar app. I think I like Calendars by Readdle better though

If you've used this before on more than one platform, could you describe one feature that sets the bar higher than the free, cross-platform Google calendar? Always open to trying something new for a few dollars. ..

Our family uses Cozi Family Organizer. Different pay model. Free app, subscription for family account across as many platforms and users as you like. Not exactly just a calendar and really use to keep track of all our appointments but lists like Christmas lists, grocery lists, notes, etc. Highly recommend. This app OP posted I would be turned off by needing separate app for iPad and iPhone and Mac, although it does say family share for up to 6 users.
