It has global dimming. Not sure if Samsung has really fixed it. Issue since 3 years ago with Samsungs at the very least:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghTmaOo6lZA&t=2s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxpsTIfBP8Q

Above are both global and local dimming problems.

There is no consensus if it can truly be turned off even if you go to PC Mode, Movie Mode, Service Menu. Some say it's gone, some say it's still there.

I'd say most won't be bothered but to people with discerning eyes or specific usages like watching lots of subtitled content specially in hdr where zones can be more aggressive, now you have better knowledge on what you could potentially be getting into.

Samsung Q8FN will have better blooming handling (superior local dimming), but may or may not still have global dimming issues (where if a small bright object appears on a dark scene; the brightness will shoot up for the entire screen).

No reason to get this when the 75" Sony X900F is $22XX via BuyDig right now.

Nope, Sony X900F is better overall, see here [rtings.com]. Samsung's Tinzen OS is by far the worst out of any manufacturer, see here [arstechnica.com]. The local dimming on the Q7FN is abysmal.

I don't play competitive games on consoles, I use PC. 9.9/10 people could not pass a blind test comparing 20 vs. 40ms input lag. The input lag differences with 4k are virtually identical. And Samsung can't do 1440p @ 60hz. The local dimming however, 10/10 people can notice how much better the Sony is.

Input lag: Sony 40.9, Samsung 19.6
It's a huge difference, I play Halo and Sony's input lag is just horrible and it sucks, Samsung is just a great gaming tv. Like you said, you don't use a console so you don't know how bad it is

Samsung interface is also better (proving my point)

I have owned both TVs so I can speak from experience... like I said if all you need is picture quality then it's Sony

40.9ms for 1080p gaming. If you have 1X, PC, PS4, signal, not talking about games natively rendered, you'll have close enough performance. Switch might be an issue though and regular PS4.

Samsung has that Game Motion Plus, low lag interpolation but produces more artifacts than regular interpolation, better than nothing I guess.

Some prefer the Q7's punchier colors and anti-glare filter though.

Won't touch Q7 unless priced aggressively since we watch a lot of shows with subtitles.

Halo 5 is 4k on Xbox One X. Furthermore, the Xbox Spring update unlocked 4k to 1440p scaling which the Samsung can't even support! The Sony can do 1440p @ 60Hz. The input lag differences are virtually identical between the two @ 4k: 24.2 ms vs. 19.4 ms = virtually identical. I HIGHLY doubt you a have a X900F and a Q7FN. Both of these models just came out in 2018.

Looks like it's expired, but it frequently goes on sale. Also, YMMV, but via social engineering one could call BuyDig and get them to do that price over the phone.

You can't actually. I tried a couple times, and the guy straight up told me he'd love to, but it's all dependent on promo / advertising $$ from Sony when they run these deals.

Greentoe just emailed me about a price drop, so they probably have them for $2300 now, but I jumped on that Buydig ebay deal and saved a total of 6% between ebay bucks, e rebates and CC cash back on my 900F, net of like $2125. SUPER deal on an amazing TV. Can't wait for it to get here.

Anyone know if it is the Sony the model that blocks Kodi with its update?
