as an actual mouse pad, these blow.

The dimensions are 31" x 11". 31" in is generous enough, but the 11" is ridiculous. Toss your good-sized keyboard on it and you're left with a mouse "area" of roughly 11" x 11"

at that point you might as well buy the one with the cute cat on it.

now a 48" x 24" - that's what an XXL mousepad [amazon.com] should be.

Gaming pads are generally bigger than that mousepad with a cute cat on it. They're optimized for mouse tracking and movement, especially for FPS games.

XXL is an overstatement. This pad smells like rubber so you're gonna want to air it out for a while before using it.

What is the difference between a gaming mouse pad and a regular mouse pad?

While I don't understand anyone's need for a mousepad under the keyboard.... having a larger mousepad for your actual mouse is wonderful when you play any FPS games.

XXL = Keyboard + Mouse coverage
Large = Mouse only coverage (enormous!)

I personally have the SteelSeries QcK Large Thick, which was an upgrade from a SteelSeries Medium Classic and I absolutely love it. Made a huge difference in how you game. As for work, I just have the stand mousepad with a cute kitty on it.

I'm using this one right now, it's pretty nice. Works the way you would expect a mouse pad to. Does smell like ass for a few days, but no issues with curling. I went with one this size because I have a glass desk that's 34" wide, and it was getting scraped to hell by plates and stuff when I ate at my desk. It also keeps my Keyboard from sliding and my wrists from getting pressure lines in them from resting on the hard edge.

it's mostly aesthetic at this size, giving off a bit more symmetric look, but also feels nice when you're resting your palms on your desk. Doubles as a coaster too.

I use this at the office, but when I'm at home I'm currently using Corsair MM300 because I game and the height is higher than OP mousepad. I'm gonna get a bigger pad soon (Steelseries QCK XXL, HyperX Fury S) because I need more height for those vertical flick shots.

Some people want a keyboard under a large mousepad or mat because they might have a slick table that their keyboard slides around. Having the pad keeps it in place. That's my only thought on it.
