I was about to get the 8tb from Amazon for 150, but decided to ask them to PM the 6tb with newegg. Instead they gave me a $25 credit to apply to my order if shipped and sold by Amazon. Definitely a ymmv, but worth the chat.

Didn't previous iterations of this contain Red drives?

Granted, I'd probably only be using it to make some bulk backups, so it probably doesn't matter that much.

It was a credit not a price reduction, or do you mean a pic of the price for the 8tb at 149.99.

Just snagged this, PLUS a Seagate 6TB Ext. HDD on Newegg as well for $107.99 [newegg.com].

I was able to get it for that price with the promo code included in this flyer - (10% off w/ promo-code - EMCTUUT23 [newegg.com]).

I've heard less complaints about this OP Vs. Seagate however I plan on shucking both of these and using in RAID format for backups. I think it'd be more responsible to opt for 2X totally different brands when doing the RAID setup. Otherwise, this one is probably best if you're looking for a single Ext. HDD. Thanks OP!

It is mixed bunch of reviews on Amazon for this product. Which is more value? at 110 6tb or 150 8tb? I need it to connect to my raspberry pi and use it for hosting my git server and local nfs.

$130 8TB WD drive would be the best value. Comes up pretty regularly. If you need a drive NOW then the 6TB is about $.42 less per TB.
