If you decide to rent a car beware that you will most likely receive ZTL congestion traffic fines. The signs are very easy to miss and Google maps directs you right through them

Unless you're going to the countryside, skip the car. Trains are easy and pretty cheap if you book in advance. If you need a car, there are multiple sites that specify the ZTL zones and cameras.

Great deal but I will be very careful with Alitalia. They are state owned by Italy, and, I had one of the worst flight experiences back in October 2018. (1) No structure when boarding the gate - mad rush to get your assigned seats (2) Gate staff are rude and will not put your luggage into the same plane if you check it at the gate (happened to me and I didnt have my clothes for 3 days). (3) Most seats recline but some dont recline and its not even in the exit aisle. (5) Barely any leg room space as they put the seats close to each other. (4) Almost all of their planes are old (stuck in the 80s).(5) Food is terrible - it didnt look good at all - so I starved in the entire flight from Boston to Rome (6) Once in Rome, I had to deal with customer service who shared that they have tendency to lose luggage. This is my warning.

Great price, but are there any deals on accommodations once there? I would like to visit there, never been.

With a checked-in bag (RT) it comes out to $307 or so. Still a pretty good deal, but not unheard of during the cold season

This is not true if you are careful. I drove in Rome and Florence without any fines.

We got lots of 2 for 1 deals on Trenitalia by booking a month out, and second class is still very nice.

Never heard of TravelGenio, but I did see the option of booking directly with Delta on the dates I selected for only $15 more per ticket

Nice! Was it a special promo code? I recently booked Roma Termini --> Firenze --> Pauda --> Roma Termini. Was surprised how affordable all the tickets were. All the tickets were about 40% off recently, but would've loved BOGO
