Southwest Airlines Chase Visa: 2019 Companion Pass after 4k spend within 3mo

+103 Deal Score

Earn a Southwest Companion Pass, and 30k points, with just one credit card application:

https://www.southwest.com/html/ra...index.html

I understand the two card method is still better for most folks to have the Companion pass through 2020 but some of us can't open two more Chase SW Visas.

As mentioned in original post, it is possible for most people (as in those who haven't *been approved* for more than 5 credit cards *that are reported on their credit reports* in the past 2 years) to get a companion pass for 2019 and 2020 by applying for two Southwest credit cards, and meeting their minimum spend, as described here: https://slickdeals.net/f/12590818-southwest-rapid-rewards-cards-promo-possible-companion-pass-for-2019-and-2020

Please note $149 or $69 "annual fee applied to your first billing statement." mentioned in Southwest website.

FYI .. 2 card deal boils down to 2 years with 5k spend in 3 months, with 110k points

This might be decent for someone who has tons of points with an expired companion pass.

It's good for me because I'm ineligible for a Plus card and a Premier card due to having received their bonuses within 24 months - Apr 2017. (Also currently ineligible for Premier cause I haven't cancelled it yet.)

My wife is currently working on the Premier Biz and Plus Personal for 2019/2020 pass.
But I'm going to get this Priority card for a 2019 pass so our two kids will fly free this year!

Pretty smart on SW/Chase's side. With 110k+ free points and CP from two cards, most people will generate zero revenue for SW, and end up with at least one Chase card (probably both) they never use again after making their initial spend.

By taking this smaller point bonus + CP route, the large base of customers who don't earn points outside of these CC offers will likely turn into revenue generators for at least half the fare cost. Plus less open cards for Chase to deal with.

The two card method used to be opening two personal Southwest cards and hit the minimum spend to taking you over 110k usually required for a companion pass. Now it's a combo of a personal card and a business card to get over the threshold and have it trigger (And you can get over a year of companion pass which is cool!). This new offer is for just a year but requires less work/spend total.

If anyone is trying to do the two card method, I have the 60k referral offer for the SW personal card that's good until 1/15. Doc of Credit mentioned it today. pm me and I'll shoot it over, it does have the 12k spend requirement for the second part of the bonus so not sure it's the best offer I've seen, the inflight 50k was pretty good!

New to this Southwest Companion Pass.

What do you mean by having the pass through 2020? The offer says

Can someone please clarify?
If you go the traditional 2-card route (which may or may not still be available) to earn 110k points to gain companion pass, that companion pass is valid for the rest of the current year and all of the next year.

With this new credit card offer from Chase, they've changed it so the companion pass earned specifically through this card is only good through the end of the year you obtained it.

Thank you for the explanation.
