Offer is not valid for groups and cannot be combined with other select offers. In-Room Internet Access, Fitness Center/Health Club Access and Bottled Water benefits may not be complimentary at properties with a resort charge. Space-available upgrades only available at select brands. Elite status benefits are subject to availability and vary by brand. For more information, please visit HiltonHonors.com.

2,000 points is really not much (I have well over 1 million points as a frequent Hilton traveler) but free is free. They offer me 500 point all the time when I call the diamond desk to answer an online survey and I usually pass on that. At least here there is nothing to do but travel. Smilie

EDIT: Just realized this is 2,000 extra points PER STAY. That is a pretty good deal. I already have half a dozen Hilton reservations lined up for the beginning of the year.
I think last year, after 60 nights, I got a 100000 point bonus, then I started earning 10000 point bonus per 10 nights. So I think this will be very profitable if you stay 60 nights before the promotion ends

Just an FYI 2K Hilton points is roughly $12, unless you are using them for something incredibly expensive to book like NYC on NYE.
2k points is only around $5

I don't know how people are giving you a definitive answer since there are so many variables involved. Do these people travel or just count points?

You start with the most basic question - are the room prices the same? Paying $400 for a room and saving $45 is worst off than paying $200 and getting no points. I have had around 80 stays in last 2 years - none was Marriott - their rates were much higher than Hilton/IHG.

Do you have tier status with either brand? Do you have affinity card with either brand? The best way to evaluate Marriott vs. Hilton would be to take the room rate, figure out all the points that you can get from affinity card, program promotion etc. For Hilton use 0.4cents per point, Marriot use 0.7. And then compare the two. And if you have status and get free breakfast, free room upgrades, executive lounge uprgrade with one program versus the other, factor that in your calculations.

--

With regards to Hilton points being a joke, I was beginning to wonder too. I have an algorithm - if I can get a good point rate for the hotel, use the points - else pay cash. I am booked in Prague for 5 nights at a super-excellent point rate - 2/3rds of my points are cleaned out. Not bad - as long as my algorithm gives me values such as this one, Hilton will work very nicely for me. [I must have timed it right - now they are asking for twice as many points for the same exact room].

The other thing to factor in the program bonuses. Marriott has the suckiest promotions right now for points. My son is going to be staying at Edition (high-end Marriott property) for 7 days and the Marriott promotion is you get 2000 points starting from 2nd stay - i.e. he gets zilch from the promotion. Hilton gives you a lot more better promotions so factor that in the point value. Just did a $100 stay with Hilton - getting 5,000+ points for it. Marriott would have been 1,000. Would I take 5,000 Hilton versus 1,000 Marriott points - absolutely - no ifs and and buts about it.

The other thing for me - I just love the way Hilton treats me even when I was a lowly HIlton Gold. They treated me/wife/son to free breakfast in most hotels - minimum of a $60 value. This is in addition to giving me room upgrades. Marriott does not give you free breakfast at most levels. I am a Spire Elite member with IHG and that does squat for me - no executive lounge benefits. So yeah IHG uses big words "SPIRE ELITE" but that equates to NOTHING. Hilton as I said, even a lowly Gold gets upgraded and breakfast free. On top of it, if I can score my stay similar to Prague, between the HIlton Amex card points, Gold/Diamond points, promotion points, I am getting a fantastic discount on my room. Doing an eastern Europe this summer - all 3 major cities booked with Hilton - one of the hotels has already confirmed me the executive lounge King suite while the IHG hotel in that same location was going to charge me 30 Euro per person for breakfast - i.e. 90 Euros for 3 people - with that kind of adder per night, Hilton is a bargain and the points are freebies on top of it. You could say - skip breakfast - but we don't - we enjoy the breakfast- it is the fun of travel. And we start with a nice breakfast - go out for sightseeing and have a light lunch.
The current Marriott promo is 2k per 2 night stay starting with the first stay, then 3k for each stay thereafter as long as it's a different brand. So you son would get 2k on his first stay if he signed up.

Was it fifth night free like at some properties? If so did you get the bonus points for 4 nights or 5?
I have been traveling for work and using Hilton Honors since 2013, and I have never seen where you didn't get a 5th night free when you use points, so not sure what you mean by some properties. This bonus is only 2000 points per stay. So I got the 2000 points only once for a 5 night stay. I had a separate stay on new years eve and I got double points on that from the promo last quarter.

Hilton points are worthless unless you have a crap ton. I wouldn't go out of my way for this deal in any shape or form.

You likely need to book directly thru Hilton.
*Also from website:"Hilton will match 3rd party pricing plus 25% [hilton.com]"

Hilton's Price Match Guarantee
We do our best to always offer you the lowest price, but if you find a lower qualified price* on another site, we will be happy to match it and give you 25% off that stay.

Here's how it works:
If you find a lower qualified price* for the same accommodation and terms at any point before your reservation is made or up to 24 hours after making your reservation through one of the official Hilton booking channels**, we will honor the lower price AND take an additional 25% off the room rate for each night of your stay.

I'd say I'm pretty saavy with my points but also calculate whether $ or pts are more worthwhile. I don't have 80 nights last year but roughly 40 night throughout. Was diamond at Hilton so yes I understand about breakfast. Marriott hotels seem to be around the same price as Hilton. It also depends what hotel and what region, obviously. So when calculating out 2k pts...that in Hilton world means nothing. Definitely take $45 instead of those points. But of course, if the hotel is $400 vs $200...one should be smart enough to go with the $200 one and no pts or promotions vs paying $400 just to get $45 back.

Each hotel brand has their own set of perks. Depending on which area and which hotel...that makes a huge difference. Some Marriott have concierge lounge which makes it worthwhile since breakfast, snacks, refreshments are all included.
Hilton can you lounge at the Gold level which is really easy to get. Marriott on the other hand I believe requires you to be Platinum. My main point is that Hilton is fairly generous even at low tier levels whereas the other hotel chains are not.

Most people value Hilton points at 0.5 or 0.6 cents, so between $10-12 sounds about right. I don't think I've ever had a redemption for under 0.5 cents and I travel a lot.

Hilton has devalued the points. It is harder and harder to get 0.5 cents.Typical example would be room rate of $200 and points required for free room would be 60K. But you get lucky sometimes and can get that 0.5 cent rate - that is when you redeem.

Also, sometimes you may have to do a 5-night redemption where the 5th night is free in order to get that 0.5 rate. I didn't know this but Hilton Premium rewards don't give you the 5th night free.

What is considered a stay? Can I go one night and check out or is a stay 2 nights minimum?
Check-in, Check-out is a stay. If you do it in consecutive nights at the same property I think they'll still count it as a stay.
There is no minimum. You can have a one night stay.
This seems like the regular quarterly promotion they do. I personally like the double base points promotion better.

Technically a good deal, but it's actually kind of crap. I stay a lot of time at Hilton properties for a week or longer so verified with them what this promotion was. I can stay a month at one property and only get basically 2000 points extra, but someone checking in and out of properties daily for the same period will effectively get 120,000 bonus points. That is kind of unfair

Edit: Called them back to verify things, so even though I only get 2,000 points for a stay I will still get 10,000 points for every 10 nights, which is still kind of crap but better than nothing I guess.

Agreed - not as good as the typical double points promotion. My stay rate is typically around $260 - with points double, it would be 2600 points PER NIGHT.
