I actually have this soundbar, and it has excellent sound, but as I said, no HDMI ARC. You can teach it to recognize your TV's remote to control volume and power, but its still not as good as ARC.
I'm not buying any more soundbars without it.
Assuming your TV properly passes DD/DTS (and hopefully transcodes DD+ to DD), the optical out to a soundbar can do everything you need in the non-ATMOS soundbar space. On top of that, set the audio output volume to Variable, and you can control the volume with your TV remote and just leave the bar powered on.
ARC (just like many non-core features of the HDMI standard) can become a headache when it doesn't work as intended/designed and often for no clear or diagnosable reason. If you don't need a specific functionality it offers, I would avoid it.

I'm a filthy casual and just want a decent soundbar and maybe a sub... I don't need surround or anything like that.
