My friend bought a Toshiba 4K TV with Chromecast built in that died just slightly outside of the year warranty. Doesn't really instill a lot of faith in them.

Insignia is sometimes a rebranded Toshiba according to the internet. Whatever the case is, the name recognition of Toshiba makes it easier to sell once you move or upgrade.

Toshiba name doesn't mean anything these days. Toshiba hasn't made TVs for years. They've been made by Compal since 2015 who licenses the Toshiba name. Toshiba brand is now owned by Hisense, but I believe these are still Compal-made until the Compal license expires.

60Hz effective? So what's the native refresh?

I thought Insignia was a Chinese brand last year and it wasn't until recently that I thought that that may not be the case. $9 for your awareness level for reselling a TV isn't a bad bet.

This might actually be good for a computer monitor per the rtings site. Might pull trigger but wanted 40 inch to use as monitor.

Same thing happened to me when I paid $650+ for a 32" Samsung, back when they were waaay more expensive than they now are. Pic just went totally black one day. I should've just gone with a cheaper generic one and maybe it'd still be working.
