Yes. The answer to "do I need more RAM?" Is always "yes."

Would I need 2 new sticks of ram or could I add 8gb to the factory installed 8gb?

If it isn't an exact matched pair, it won't run as dual channel (even if your laptop was capable of it) and will run at the spoed of the slowest module as single channel. So, it will increase total memory but you will lose the significant increase in speed with dual channel operation if your laptop is capable of it.

RAM prices are coming down and will continue to come down from their ridiculous highs.

Unless your laptop is suffering from lack of memory, I wouldn't add a single stick like this. But wait for a dual kit to come down in price to upgrade.

Also, its a good idea to take out your original stick as a backup in case your two new modules go bad or whatnot that way you're not stuck waiting for new ram. It will probably never happen but one more reason apart from what was already mentioned about running slower in single channel with mismatched sticks.

If you need additional memory just buy this. Will give you more performance boost than the so called single VS dual channel crap...
