If you are serious about supplementing with Curcumin search for brands with the BCM-95 extract that is a lot more bioavailable and absorbable.

I've used straight turmeric with some black pepper for acute sports injuries and found that it worked better than any NSAID. A lot safer, too.

Imo and in my experience the spice works just as well or better than extracts. It's also a LOT cheaper.

If you look at the full text in some of the PubMed articles (search for turmeric or curcumin) you'll find that there are rarely differences between the extracts and whole spice. In fact, in some studies turmeric was just as powerful after removing the curcumin, so that might not even be the active ingredient. It's probably more than one component or a synergistic effect.

If you don't have journal access (try your library), Michael Greger has done some great videos on turmeric and curcumin using the latest science available. Just Google him.

Is that because of their genetics or their diet (or both)? What are cancer rates like for Indians living abroad that have different diets? What about non-Indians that eat an Indian-style diet? As cancer is generally a disease of older age, what is the average life expectancy in India? If the average life expectancy is lower than the typical age where cancer risk starts to increase significantly, that could also be a reason for lower cancer rates.

Probably not a high absorption rate on this, but it's a low cost alternative to get my husband started on it. If he takes it every day and sees any improvement then I will upgrade him to the higher quality type that I take myself.

One of the best ways if you are not use to Indian currys ...where it's always and always present is.....having it with orange juice first thing in the morning...just add half teaspoon.....in your orange juice...you won't even notice it...and kids also love it this way...

Just putting some turmeric in juice is not going to do much of anything. Even turmeric in curry isn't going to have much of an effect on health. Tastes great though.

Maybe, but cancer rates are very low in the parts of India where tumeric is heavily consumed

curcumin has poor oral bioavailability and as mentioned by another poster, i would look into BCM95 (which i think is superior to meriva, theracurmin, or curcumin w/ piperine, etc).

All kinds of people talk about turmeric not being good, absorption rates, blah blah. All I know is if I take it every day it's a great anti inflammatory for me. But YMMV. Thanks op.

Why are you so inflamed in the first place?
