I had been looking at buying the Yamaha YAS-108 for $199.99 just an hour ago. This is Costco's rebranded model of it and it's a great little sound bar for watching tv. Would pay more for a 5.1 system if it was all about music but with us it isn't. This gets good reviews from places such as audioholics, tech hive, CNET, etc.

For those wondering about sound quality, I have a YAS 107 which is the older model but supposed to be acoustically very similar to the new 1080. It obviously doesn't shake the room with bass, but provides a very surprisingly full sound for just a sound bar. The upgrade over my B7 series oled built in speakers is without question and it's abilty to be connected via ARC, turn on/off with the TV and use the single TV remote makes it as convenient as possible. For living in a condo where excessive bass is unwarranted, I really enjoy the Yamaha sound bar on its own. Although if we move back in to a house with a big living room I'll probably resort back to a separate 5.1+ system or at least add a sub to the 107, but as-is for $120 it's excellent value.

100% agree here. Separate sub is a most if you want to hear or feel the bass

I'm no audiophile so I'm thinking of getting the $120 model. Anyone with more expertise able to weigh in on whether the more expensive versions are worth it?

The samsung seems like a good deal, but I wonder how good it is. Anyone have it? I would use it for movies, TV, and music.

Without a separate subwoofer I think most of these sound bars are a waste of money.

Looks good. If you dont need rear speakers then the smasungs is good.

Can anyone add to why anyone would need a receiver when I already have Dolby Atmos with my soundbar?

No. You get a much clearer dialogue and music from the soundbar vs a regular tv built in speakers. More open sound. The bass is a little better for movie also. The sound from my tv speakers really hurt my ears.

I bought it a month ago. It's a good sound bar for the price and works well for regular TV watching (movies, shows, etc. ). Bluetooth music playback is very good. It has a center channel as well. Helps with better voice.

FYI there is a previous sd thread that goes in depth on the Yamaha 1080.

Not sure about this specific model but some Samsung sound bars have issues with Bluetooth skipping. Also my K450 model gets really tinny if the sounds gets high pitched. I wouldn't buy another Samsung Sound bar again.

The 1080 is great for a bedroom. But you should get one with a sub for any other room.
