prices will go down as Netgear announced WIfi 6 mesh to be available in 2019. If you can hold off it could be worth waiting. tplink announced one too.

So these are NOT good for gaming correct? I really want a mesh system but they never make ANY of the recommendations.

Why wouldn't it be good for gaming ? Because it's not a "gaming" router ? Smilie

This is not only NOT good for gaming. It is not good for anything. I bought this last year from Costco for $280 or around that. One of the two satellites was always disconnecting and the entire network hung. I took the second satellite down and 2 ended up being enough for my home. That did not prevent the network from dropping internet connection approximately once a week. The Netgear technical support canned reponses are always (1) wait for the next firmware release" or (2)factory-reset the system and see if it works. I tried factory resetting and it fixes the problem for enough time to get Netgear tech support off the phone. The next drop comes in a week and I honestly don't have the 45minutes to 1 hour to wait until I get help from Netgear. The minute I get my hands on the 3-band Linksys Velop 3-kit, I am returning this piece of shitware back to costco or selling on CL.

You dont have much to lose buying these now if youre worried about a newer better product on the new standard coming out in due time. Costco will take the return.

I feel like the Orbi and the Ubiquiti systems will inevitably be compared AGAIN in this thread as they have been compared several times on SD since BF, but lets just chat about Orbi.

Orbi is the easier and faster system to set up quickly. No need to run wires. Very strong range. Dedicated 1733mbps PHY radio for backhaul. Easy to bridge to ethernet. Yes, it has been a lot cheaper in the past. $299, and $159 for a two-pack if you were ok with refurbished. But its $$, and the software is pretty bad. There are also reported issues with disconnects, which I had not experienced, but Im apt to believe.

ex for software: For Orbi need to telnet in just to set different SSIDs for the 2G and 5G signals. In the ubiquiti you can set SEVERAL SSIDs PER RADIO and assign each one different access permissions (vlan) with just a few clicks.

Knock on wood, mine are working well. Had the mini and returned those after two attempts to get them stable. Got the four piece Velop when they went in sale for $399 but ended up returning them unopened due to the number of questioning reviews. Also thinking that I'll just return these when the next gen Orbi comes later this year.
