Many people see USB-C and automatically assume it means USB 3.0 speed. It's not. What people don't realize is that it refers to the physical connection type.

Within the USB-C category, there are cables that carry data at USB 2.0 speeds and USB 3.1 speeds. (I recommend you avoid the former as much as possible - bleh). Cables that are 3.1 compliant carry a logo that indicates SuperSpeed+. They are definitely worth the higher cost in my opinion provided that your computer (or motherboard) is capable of USB 3.0 or higher.

As far as your suggestion that they improve their naming:

A = slotted
B = squared
(to be more specific, it's called type-A and type-B respectively)
C = oval

1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0,3.1 = all of these refer to the data transfer speed.

Just remember that the letters refer to the physical connector type, and the numbers refer to the transfer speed.

Something can be USB 2.0 and be USB C at the same time. USB A/C is the connector type (shape), and USB 2.0/3.0 is the transfer speed.

What do you mean? I see USB-C, are you referring to something different?

Edit: Oh, you must mean the Amazon deal.

Doh, now I get it. Thanks for explaining. The USB-IF might improve their approach to naming.

Full-featured USB-C cables that implement USB 3.1 Gen 2 can handle up to 10 Gbit/s data rate at full duplex. They are marked with a SuperSpeed+ (SuperSpeed 10 Gbit/s) logo. There are also cables which can carry only USB 2.0 with up to 480 Mbit/s data rate. There are USB-IF certification programs available for USB-C products and end users are recommended to use USB-IF certified cables.

So, what's the verdict on this? Looks decent. USB transfer speed doesn't impact rate of charging, does it? Anybody know anything about this seller?
