Most newer, thinner laptops come without an ethernet port, and this allows for that capability. Could also be used for a phone with USB-C for whatever reason one might need ethernet (like large file transfer, running a speedtest, etc).

If your laptop has only one USB-C port, you may better off buying USB-C hub instead!
Search for USB C hub on Amazon. Hub will provide more flexibility with Ethernet and also many different ports!
They're many varieties!

The Switch is only compatible with AX88179 chipset Ethernet adapters and not the faster RTL8153 based ones. I suspect that this thing uses the Realtek one since it's a gigabit adapter.

Since USB-C is a subset of Thunderbolt 3 -- will this adapter work as a Thunderbolt 3 to Ethernet adapter?
