While it doesn't compete with 9th gen I7-9700K it's not too far off from the previous generation of 8th gen i7-8700K, which still runs about $350. So this seems like a pretty good price if you aren't looking to get a 9th gen i7

Right, but this is still faster and a lot cheaper than a 2700X (unless you're doing pro-level heavy multithreaded workloads).

It'll still be cheaper than new Ryzen cpu's and will probably will not perform that much worse in gaming, if at all. It'll be a while before we can say for sure.

Yes, exactly! I have a Ryzen 1700x build and while I am quite happy with it, if the 9600K had been this price when I was ordering parts I would have likely bought it instead.

Great price, probably would have gone Intel over AMD had it been this price when I was buying parts for my build at BF.

While it doesn't compete with 9th gen I7-9700K it's not too far off from the previous generation of 8th gen i7-8700K, which still runs about $350. So this seems like a pretty good price if you aren't looking to get a 9th gen i7

I have this processor and a GTX 1080. This config makes games fly. I upgraded from an i3-8100 and it fixed random hitches/frame rate drops due to other/background processes eating CPU. This chip is solid. Easily over clocks and still runs cool.

you think a 1070 with this will still be pretty good for games? mainly just trying to get overwatch on high (not ultra) settings with 144fps.

been waiting for an 8700k deal but no luck..

No hyper threading? Still at 14nm? When AMD is at 12nm and going on 7nm.

So 9th gen is that much better than 8th? (I5 on par with 8th i7?)

It might be under $200, but some resources say that prices could be exactly the same as for full parts with iGPU. as funny as it may sound. Just because they can and they don't care.
And also 8% in eBay bucks today is nice.

The gigabyte gaming x is what I originally planned on getting . I am spending a bit more on the pro WiFi version.
