I love my ST, but have a hard time finding a use for smart plugs other than Christmas lights. What does everyone do with theirs?

Tons of $18 offerings within 15 min, but there is some $9 inventory an hour away (Henderson, NC 27537). Im going to hold out and see if they cut pricing locally....

Good find!

I have always found that smartplus are good for people that rent. Someone is not going to replace an outlet or switch in a rented property. I personally do not like the plugs and would instead install a zwave outlet...looks clean.

Sure, but what do you usually control with your z-wave outlet?

Same here. Only use smart plugs for the 2 floor lamps that we have in the house and we don't even use them for lighting, just for looks. They only get used for lighting when we're gone on vacation to set up with turning on and off randomly to make it seem like we're home.

I also have some other ones that only get brought out for the Christmas tree and we use voice control for that and timer to shut off in case we forget to turn off before going to sleep.

Not sure what else we have that can be plugged in that doesn't require some settings to be changed either manually on the actual item or via the item's remote control, so these won't work for those items.

Same question...what exactly do you plug into them (plug or outlet)?

For example, we have a Dyson fan/heater that's not the one you can control via app. If I plug that into one of these I don't even know if it will turn on (just off) and we can't control the settings.

I guess you can plug in a regular standing fan that has a dial to turn on/off and always leave it on so you can control with the smart plug/outlet.

As you said, Christmas light, also I use it for floor lamps, aquarium light, coffee maker in case I forget to turn it of, I also have some fans inside a cabinet where my Xbox is, that turns on when I ask Alexa to turn on Xbox.

I'll add to uses. I have one on a dehumidifier in my basement. About to install a hot water circulator pump and will put it on my smartthings schedule only when we're home and certain times/certain days. Lamps as mentioned. I have a small spotlight on my American flag on front of garage. Use it occasionally to power my Chevy diesel truck block heater (obviously on schedule. Have my washing machine plugged into one and set up to kill power to washing machine if leak is detected.
