I'm in the market for a drill press vise for my Craftsman benchtop drill press and I came across this Irwin vise on sale for $16.98. This is $2 less than the lowest price it's ever been according to 3C. Average price is $23.26 and the highest it has ever sold for was $33.85.

Why so hostile. Not everyone needs high quality / expensive tools and Harbor Freight serves that purpose. And while you have bad experiences, it's not like everything they sell is absolute worthless crap that will fail after a couple of uses.

The poster contributed to the discussion by posting a cheaper alternative that people might not be aware of. Rather than attacking them, just point out that the tool in the op might be better and leave it at that. No need to be an angry dick about it

Yeah, it seems like every Amazon tool "deal" that comes along is in actuality just them price matching someone else's deal.

folks, the HF vices are junk. i think a good method to figure out the quality of an item like this is the weight. if you think an item may be from the same mfg., just rebranded and cheaper, check the weight. in my experience the HF don't weigh nearly as much as Irwin, Yost, and of course Wilton.

Thank you for taking the time to post. This hit my alert for drill press vise. I am holding out for one that is adjustable while clamped--sorta like a small milling attachment.

Hyundai has a car that's a lot cheaper than a BMW... I mean they must be equivalent since they both drive, have engines, 4 doors and 4 wheels! I'm shocked BMW is still in business!
Every single tool post.... smh
Can you point out the differences in these two vices? They probably come off the same manufacturing line in China

The Irwin model has wider jaws, 4" v. 3". It's just wider and heavier.

Weight, size and fit and finish. LOOK at the pics.
Not to mention every cast iron tool I've got from HF has been brittle junk.
Everyone who is looking at this (or any tool) thread KNOWS that HF sells a shittier version of said tool at a lower price.... why do people feel the need to assume all tools are the same and are infinitely interchangeable?!
I'll tell you who thinks that way... people who don't use tools often or well!
Who wants a vise that binds up all the time or cracks? "I saved $4 over buying something nice, too bad I have to fight with it every time I use it"
Thanks for pointing out that HF sells cheap tools tho, none of us knew that.

And I thought I was the only one that thought that way. Smilie I try to always buy from the original source not the price matcher (typically amazon)

It's okay to provide alternatives. Don't shame him for giving others different options.
