Are these really any better than a standard PS4 console? I heard that they render internally at 1440p which is then up-scaled to 4k.

As someone who's owned both the standard PS4 and PS4 Pro, the difference between the two consoles is marginal at best. Certain Pro-optimized games can be run at either the standard 1440p or a checkerboard rendering technique that will improve the resolution on 4K TV's. Additionally, some games offer improved performance modes in 1080p mode which unlocks the frame-rate for higher performance (see God of War, Tomb Raider, etc.)

The problem with the latter mode is that the "unlocked" FPS modes rarely achieve a desired 60fps and oftentimes float around 45-50 fps. This creates a jarring image that is only slightly better than the locked 30fps on standard models. Also, many of the Pro-optimized games run at exactly the same framerate as base models (see Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc.) making the upgrade purely aesthetic.

The upgrade is nice to have but in no way worth the extra $160 that these Pro deals are asking for over the $200 standard PS4 bundles, especially if your TV is still only a 1080p set. At this point it's better to stick with the standard model and use your savings on the PS5 coming in early 2020 most likely.

It was E a t e s.
Sorry, but this appears to be targeted/YMMV.
I signed into the E cashback site through incognito browser and the 25% cashback wasn't there.

Too bad it's targeted. I got excited to pick up a 1X1 $369 before the 25% CB. One heck of a deal for those lucky few

Thank you so much for mentioning the cash back site. I went and checked and for some reason had 35% cash back. Brought my total cost to $233. For that price, I had to pull the trigger on this deal.

I read that the only major difference in the "newer" one is it's supposed to be quieter. Mine wasn't loud at all, so I dunno.
