First post, be gentle.

Costco has Legion Y520 15.6" Gaming Laptop (80YY0074US) on sale for $899. Shipping is $15.

This was the same YMMV deal that was going for $699 (which was not for sale anywhere near my state), but now looks to be discounted from yesterday's retail price of $1150.

Specs:

15.6" Anti-glare LED Backlit FHD (1920 x 1080) Display
Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Processor 2.8GHz
16GB DDR4 (2-DIMM) RAM
256GB PCIe Solid State Drive
6GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Graphics
802.11 Wireless-AC + Bluetooth® 4.1
Backlit Keyboard
Windows 10

Seems like a good deal. I am in the market for a budget gaming laptop. How does this fare? Seems good as there is 16GB Ram and the video card is a 1060 6GB. Any faults?

Check SD threads but I believe others have found it for $699 in store

I am looking for a decent machine for my wife that can handle autoCAD / photo editing. Torn between this and the Y700 with a bigger drive for $200 more...

Its a good laptop for the price. You can consider it last years model though.
It will run autocad and photo editing great. I use mine for solidworks.

My advice, If you don't need the laptop, wait for amazon prime day or black friday or christmas.

Otherwise go ahead and grab it. All the deals will probably be about the same, and costco does decent warranty stuff anyway.

Oh, and as to the bigger drive for 200, Don't bother, you can put in a m2 ssd if you are handy with a screwdriver. There's youtube videos if you want to see if you feel comfortable with it before deciding which to get.

I assume no touchscreen? touchscreen sure adds a lot of cost because I see great deals on ones without it.

I purchased a Y520 in about February of 2018 for ~900 that also included a 2TB HDD on top of the 256GB SSD straight from Lenovo, but had a 1050ti instead of the 1060.

It's a solid machine from what I've found. The only thing that I've found lacking is the battery life obviously when using in a more performance setting and that I broke a key on the keyboard within about 6 months that I haven't taken the time to get fixed. For the specs, the price is good.

Yes, there is another threat where folks found it for $699 in store, but it was very YMMV (multiple people reported being told that no stores in their state even carried that model - that was my experience).

This is for those of us who couldn't take advantage of the YMMV deal, as this is available for all, and includes Costco's warranty.

FWIW I got this model at this price after debating just pulling the trigger yesterday for $1150 (my pc crapped out so I am desperate)!

I had a Lenovo Y580 a few years ago the pos died after 8 months of use, I've switched to desktops since then. I'd look elsewhere if you're planning on even doing light gaming.

It's 2019. Consider getting more than 4 cores.

FWIW, I talked in depth with multiple Costco customer service reps. They looked in the system and here's multiple observations that indicate the $699 in-store price won't be coming back:

Rep 1 (a few days ago):
1. None in WA state. System not showing any orders being placed for restocking.
2. However, it isn't properly marked as 'cleared out', so there's still a possibility of getting more.

Rep 2 (yesterday):
1. The last price posted in store ended in .47, indicating it was being "cleared out", a.k.a. they won't get it in store anymore.
2. The ecommerce store (online) is showing limited inventory.
3. Her conclusion was that the online sale price is the last sale, after which this will no longer be offered.

You would hit the power button and nothing would come on. The fans would spin up and that was it. I got it repaired under RMA, but it was never the same after that and I didn't want to deal with repeatedly sending it back. I was gaming on it though, so I don't know if the heat killed it or what happened.
