Wow, these are cheaper than equivalent size USB flash drives. If you don't mind the size and can stick it in a external 2.5" USB case, I'd get SSD over flash.

From Amazon Q&A

"How much RAM is on this"

"Answer:
Thank you for contacting Crucial. This is a solid state drive for storing data. If you are asking if the drive has a DRAM cache then the answer is no, this series of SSD does not. The Crucial MX500 series will have a DRAM cache in place."

Thanks, I was wondering in general how to tell by reading the specs. I googled "how to" and can't find an answer

Easy way, pop it open. To find out before you buy, research and see what other people say. Look in the spec sheet/description for cache memory. I know Samsung say "Cache Memory Samsung 512 MB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM" for their 860 EVO 250GB on their site. I look at Crucial MX500 which I know have DRAM plus other brand/model with DRAM. They don't advertise or say it got DRAM. From my understanding, the mainstream model will have DRAM, while budget model comes without. Manufacturers are trying to cut cost to lower the price to sell more unit by remove DRAM from some model of their SSD. Inland is one of them, their SSD used to have DRAM in it, which make it the best budget SSD. Now, they cheap out on the casing by going with plastic vs metal and remove DRAM form the drive.

TL/DR: You better of paying $10-$20 more on mainstream model vs the budget model. You end up saving more money in the long run and do not have to deal with SSD stutters or being slow over time. Usually DRAM SSD have longer R/W and warranty.
