I was going to pick up the 5 port model but saw Amazon also has the 8 port version for $17.99. This is the metal unmanaged version if anyone is interested.

I have been using both these TP-Link and Netgear switches for over the last decade. I have also tried DLink.

Performance wise, I have never seen a difference.
Reliability wise...
Do not buy D-Link...just don't.
TP-Link occasionally has the power supply fail.
I have never seen an issue with my Netgear switches.

Just FYI

A managed switch is configureable for networks that need VLANs and other uses. I suck at explaining it but I think the rule of thumb is if you don't need any advanced features just stick with a dumb switch.

This seems like a good.price for the additional ports.

Does anyone have an idea what the POE switches like this would go for on a "deal?"

There was a ubiquiti poe switch for $90 that hit FP a few weeks ago. But it was a managed switch.

A more unknown brand with 8 ports (all POE) will hit around $55-$65 on a deal (something like BV-Tech). A more mainstream brand with 8 ports and generally only 4 of them are POE will hit between $75-$90 on a deal (like Ubiquti).

Good price but reading thru a lot of the review sites I think the TP-Link SG108 for $16.99 AC from Fry's might be a marginally better option.

typically ~$45 usually the TL-SG1008P

less if gigabit or ports or brandname aren't a premium https://www.amazon.com/TroheStar-...ef=sr_1_15

Nevermind. This model is actually good, with larger memory.

I would prefer the TP-Link too, but it's not available for shipping. Frown

Larger Memory than what? Than the TP-Link SG108? I am not finding the specs to compare.

OK, I found it. The TP-Link has 1.5Mb vs 192KB on this NetGear SG308. However, I wonder if one is reporting buffer per port and the other in total. 192x8 would be close to the 1.5Mb and TP-Link lists there 5 port SG105 as having 1Mb which makes sense if it is in total 192x5.

Yes it is. Shows $3.95 shipping for 2 of them. I guess that would make these $1 more than the Netgear.

Edit:
OOPS wrong, it was $3.95 more to the $10.99 shipping, so it makes them much more expensive. Ordering the Netgear.
