If you are considering these, you should also check out the Costco TSR-7850 for $399 right now.

Good deal? On the hunt for a receiver that supports 4K for my 7.1 set up. Currently have a onkyo TX-SR608 but I think the hdmi board burned out. Been running hdmi into tv then back on optical cable to the stereo to bypass the problem but it's a big bandaid and a pain in the butt. _Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Looks like there are different price points for different features so a bit mor confusing. As always thanks for the help. Tally Ho

Darn, hoping the 2080 or 3080 goes on sale also.

Yeah I think the hdmi board can be replaced but not worth the cost I don't think. I am not sure if sound technology has made t worth an upgrade if not for the HDMI issue. I could limp it along if I want. Thanks

I don't have first-hand experience with it, but by most accounts it's pretty similar to the a780 but with one year less warranty. I am debating between that, or the Fry's Denon deals right now.

Even if you're not planning to continue with Onkyo, you should take advantage of their free repair service for that issue and sell it. I had the same problem with my 708 a few years ago; they handle pretty much everything for the repair, they even mail you the packaging & tape for shipping it back to them

I was by fry's today and was going to swing in. What are the major difference between the OP, the Costco Yamaha and the frys denon? Sounds like we are at the same price point so the information is greatly appreciated. Been awhile since I have been up on audio tech.

There are some forums on the web that say the Costco Yamaha TSR-7850 is very similar to (if not the same as) the RX-A780. The Costco model is on sale ($399) for a few more days.

Thanks. Didn't realize it was free. I don't even know if the tech is even relevant anymore. Doesn't have Dolby 10 or atoms.

Main difference seems to be in room correction with the Denon having Audyssey XT32. Most folks seem to prefer the Yamaha app if that matters to you. Then you also have people who prefer the sound of one brand over the other.

I'm still a bit torn. I am wanting to put in some ceiling speakers and do a 5.2.4, but there's definitely a premium to get to that.
