Using the exclude '-'(minus) option with multiple |(logical OR) pipe options

92 30 February 3, 2019 at 01:09 PM
So I'm looking for some of the popular bball shoes
so i setup a filter like this for 4 popular shoes:
KD11|Kyrie|Hyperdunk|Harden
brings back 30 results.
I realized the last one 'Harden' included random products with the word 'hardened' in their descriptions (for example it returns the recent 'Kobalt 33-Piece 1-in #2 Phillips' product and a bunch more as well).
So i wanted to exclude those, so I setup a filter like this:
KD11|Kyrie|Hyperdunk|Harden -hardened
But then it removes the actual Harden shoes thread that i see (the one which says 'Posted 08-28-2018 11:33 PM by pshadow').

Any tips on how to set this up?

P.S. I tried to play around with simplifying the query and just focusing on the Harden search, just to see if I could at least get to work without the | (OR) operators in case thats the issue, but this doesn't work either:
Harden -hardened

You know I think that'll * mostly * work.
It still returns 1 weird result, the 'Aulta Surf Leeway Men's Stainless Steel Watch w/Leather Strap $53+$10s/h' since it has the word 'hardened' in the description... Not sure why the '=Harden' part wouldn't remove that result since its not an exactly match in the description (and adding a -hardened still removes the 'Adidas Men's Harden Vol. 2 Basketball Shoes' result).

But eh, thats fine, I dont need it to be perfecto. works 99%.
I added a few more Kevin Durant shoes to include variations based on 'spaces' and also removed the word 'hunchback' since 'Dame' shoes would return 'Hunchback of Notra Dame' products.
So my final query looks like:
"KD 11"|"KD 10"|KD10|KD11|"KD Trey"|Kyrie|=Harden|Hyperdunk|Dame -hunchback

Just wish their system worked a tiny bit more logically with that -hardened (as a programmer myself, it doesn't make sense unless its a bug or something is throwing it off, like the Watch has the word 'w/hardened' so maybe thats throwing off the search phraze).

Hi armyofda12mnkeys.

Glad you were able to use UniformedHorse's suggestion to get closer to your goal. I just wanted to toss out a couple of quick notes. (Disclaimer: I am not a dev... just speaking form personal experience here as a user.) When using the site search, it essentially sees 'harden' and 'hardened' as the same word. Searching =harden|=hardens|=hardening should be almost the same as searching harden -=hardened. If you however decide to turn this into a Deal Alert, no equals signs are needed. Setting up a DA for harden will not result in you receiving notifications for a deal that only uses the word hardened. Also, when using the equals sign in site searches, there is a bug that will break the search if you navigate past the first page. In order to view the second page of results correctly, you need to manually add &page=2 to the end of the url in the browser's address bar. For the third page, change the 2 to a 3, etc. Hope this helps.

Hey @Shorted, thanks that really helped. I didnt know u could use the 'equals' with 'minus' to form a '-=hardened'. I think it removed that 1 'watch' row that i didnt want in my results, so its now:
"KD 11"|"KD 10"|KD10|KD11|"KD Trey"|Kyrie|=Harden|Hyperdunk|Dame -=hunchback -=hardened

but setting the same phrase as a 'Deal Alert' doesn't return any matches?

That is posted in the "freebie" forum, so you need to be sure to have that checked off in the deal alert settings. You most likely only have "hot deals" selected. Smilie
