FWIW, it looks like there was actually a pretty decent jump in performance between the i7-7700HQ that this has and the i7-8750H that all the newer laptops are coming with. Also, I don't see what the refresh rate is on the screen that this one comes with.

Well if you use it for more than gaming.. Newer generation 8750 has higher core count 6 vs 4, which would be beneficial for professional editing work. That plus the 144hz monitor would be worth a $200 jump.

The processor is no slouch, but to have some overhead to run future cpu demanding games or even have discord or other programs running never hurts. The gtx1070 can push 1440p and 144 fps with settings turned down.
