Very nice, I have one of these and paid $150. I like that it calls out distances to the hazards or "penalty areas" as they're now called. I clip it on my hat, it's great.

I have not seen this item online at a better price. I bought one for my dad - clips right on my belt.

Do you have to have your smartphone on you if you go to your ball to get distances? In the summer here in Florida there is a lot of times that it is cart path only for the carts, I hate having to carry my phone with me for it to work.

I'd like to use something like this at my local bars and dance clubs.

You do not need your phone. The Golf Buddy has it's own GPS. The best feature is that it speaks to you (so you don't need to bring glasses to read the screen) for distances. Also gives distances to hazards.

This is better than the Garmin. I had 2 of the Garmin and the wrist band always breaks??? This is also about $50 cheaper. Good timing as my Garmin just broke.

If accuracy to the pin matters, then why not just put this $ towards a rangefinder? None of these software based devices will ever give an accurate distance since pin placement changes often.

Since I carry my cellphone with me on the course I find my smartphone app like Hole19 quite adequate. Plus I get to see aerial overview of all the hazards and custom distance to any point on the fairway..

No, you do not need to have your phone on you. I usually keep my phone in my bag.

I have friends that use the laser range finders, and I have tried them. They are bulky, and you cannot keep them in your pocket. Half the time you're running back to the cart to grab it. The GB is easy, I keep it clipped to my hat.

I have tried some of the smart phone apps. With my iPhone XS sometimes it is hard to see the screen when it is in the direct sun. I like the GB because I hit a button and it calls out the yardage for me.
