Was looking for an inexpensive Chromebook for my 11 year old son's schoolwork and came across this ASUS C423NA Chromebook for $199.99 at COSTCO.COM

For $199 seems like a really good deal, surprised no one's posted about this. Anything wrong with this laptop??

14" 1080P seems hard to find under $399..
4G RAM and 32GB SSD is plenty for basic Google apps and surfing
Intel® Celeron® N3350 Processor 1.1GHz is my only concern, is this good enough to keep 8 tabs open and running smooth?

I don't really need the sleeve nor like a wired mouse, but hey it's a freebie I'll take it.

Plus 2 years COSTCO warranty makes me feel much safer, so pulled the trigger. Can always return if don't like it.

Anyone has hands on experience with this laptop?

I wish people would put why it's not a good deal instead of giving it a negative deal score.
Got it today in the morning, that was fast processing and shipping!

First Impressions:

Physically feels solid, didn't notice too much keyboard flex. Keyboard travel is a little short for my taste, but should be ok for kids short term typing.

Screen: I can definitely notice sharper letters vs. my other 720P chomebooks. Brightness seems average even at highest setting. It's usable, just not great.

Speed: I tested 4-5 tabs open plus youtube streaming through my chromecast video and was working fine. I did notice Google Play store was a little slow during startup.

Overall seems like a decent deal at $199. Will see how it does in the next week to decide if it's a keeper.

Looks to be pretty good for $199.00. Nice screen, 4gb and the N3350 has a decent Octane score of 11,000 which is pretty snappy for a cheap Chromer. A little to large for my liking cuz I like my Chromebooks to be super portable.

Yeah I like portability too, so for myself I have 2 sub-3lbs 13" laptops. But I noticed 3.1 lbs for a 14" seems fairly portable. Plus my kids mainly use it around home anyways.

Androidpolice review suggests this processor isn't very good but it seems like a good deal for light work

We all know what the N3350 is capable of by this point, and it's not impressive. This is the single biggest problem I have with the C423, since it comes to a crawl with more than five tabs or a couple of Android apps open.

It's a good deal, but no touch screen if that's important.

The Chrome Unboxed blog confirmed to me a couple of months ago that this model was exclusive to Costco. This C423NA-IH02 model has a 1080p resolution screen versus the C423NA-DH02 model sold by other retailers which has a 1366x768 resolution screen and they charge more for it. I think this a good deal for this type of chromebook.

Not sure why this is not getting more love. Great price for 1080p Chromebook.

You have 90 days to decide if you want it. You can't beat Costco return policy plus they extend the warranty. Since everything is stored in the cloud it's a snap to switch to another chromebook. As someone mentioned the speed is comparable to other models in this price range. As far as the number of tabs it really depends on what is running in those tabs. I use an Acer R13 as my daily driver. It has a MediaTek M8173C which has a 9900 Octane score and I have no problem having a dozen tabs plus Skype, RDP and iTunes running.

I have been using cb3-431 the model generation before for more than 2 years with very similar spec. I currently have 12 tabs open, not a big deal at all. Yes after multiple tabs open it will hiccup but less than a second is something I can deal with knowing what I am getting, and its capability.

I think if the deal model is the similar to the one I have, it is a pretty good deal.

@slaroche Imo touch screen for Chromebook is still irrelevant, if a touch screen could not be used to taking notes and draw(and draw artistically), probably better off not having it.

Costco reviews that are negative seem to report a lot of charging/power issues. That's worrisome. Other than that, it seems like a better Chromebook that I expected. Too bad no backlit keyboard. Impressed it has 4 USB ports, including 2 that are USB-C. Not in the market now, though, still doing fine with my Toshiba 2 2015.

*One review says that there's 22GB available space of the 32GB. Surprised.

I don't think you can by opening it up but you can add more cloud storage and it probably has a SD card slot. I keep 32gb cards in all my Chromebooks.
