4 series..
Its likely better to jump to a 5 or 6 if possible.
Unless this is purely to get the size.

HDR compatible only means a TV has firmware that can decode a HDR format. It does not mean a TV has the technical ability to actually display HDR. TV companies are well known for their shady marketing.

This TV can accept a HDR10 signal, but does not have the brightness, dynamic range, or color gamut necessary to display HDR.

Have this TV. It is amazing. Obviously can not directly compete with OLED and QLED but for the price it is very hard to beat. I bought it for 1500 last july.
Keep in my mind that the 75 inch got special treatment compared to the rest of their TVs. It has the tru 120 hz panel. No the 60hz like the rest. Also has a real soundbar that is attached to the bottom of the TV. It performs probably 80-90% as good as the Roku Speakers.

Plus this is Roku TV. That should be enough to forget about Samsung, LG and Vizio at this price point.
TCL's flagship 75" R615 has a 60Hz panel. There is very little chance that their bottom tier 75" S423 has a 120Hz panel.

I'd be willing to bet it is a 60Hz native, 8 bit color depth, direct lit with no local dimming, like all of the other 4 series. Also TCLs own website says nothing at all about a built in sound bar. I think you are mistaking this TV with something else.

You are right this is a POS. Would not buy. Did not think they made two different 75 inch models.

There is a few. The 2017 75" C807, 2018 75" S423 and 2019 75" R615. All 3 are 60Hz native refresh rate though. As far as I know their unreleased 2019 75" 8 Series will be their first ever TV with 120Hz native refresh.

I am not sure on 120hz the panels for c807. That has a different processer and goes up to 480hz clear motion. That is pretty much the only difference between the sizes. If it isn't 120hz then I can not tell the difference between this and friends high end tvs. The only thing I would say is that local dimming is needed as this is edge lit. I notice the blacks sometimes at night being off.

It is confirmed 60Hz. https://www.displayspecifications...el/8df1cf7

The TCL C807 is rated as slightly lower picture quality than this TV in most usage categories.

TCL is a good value option for people that want decent quality for low cost.

I think I would take the c807 based on build quality and brightness.

I would put the TV up against most TV below the 3k price range. Blacks are the only weakness.
