I have one of these lights, and I can honestly say that they are nice. They aren't a torch, but they are brighter than a standard flashlight and would work well for most common household uses. The LED lantern mode is really cool too; it would be great for camping or when the power goes out. Also these lights automatically turn when they are dropped in water (and of course they float) so that's a nice feature for boaters. $8 for three of them is seriously a CRAZY good deal! FYI, the Red Glow mode would be great for directing traffic at night (like a church/school parking lot).

I believe they are waterproof. They aren't designed to be floats, but it might be possible to add some weights for that.

When you see a price at Costco ending in 97 cents it means that store is clearing them out. I see $17.99 online -- so they aren't on clearance on their website.
