What do you guys think, is this a deal? Costco also has this available. I realize there is a significant cost difference, but I'm just looking for the better deal. What are your thoughts?

The hp will be noticeable slower due to the hard drive.

Anyone have thoughts on this desktop? Been out of desktop gaming for along time and wanting to get back. Can't say I'm that up to date on current desktop tech.

Are you talking about this particular computer, or in general? Back when I was gaming 10 years ago, this was true, but everything I have read has suggested otherwise. Isn't the age of building your own, cheaper, dead?

I read many people still say building yourself gives you good quality parts for cheaper that can last longer than prebuilts which companies cheap out on.
I think prebuilts are ok if you don't want the latest and greatest and plan on using the pc until you can't play 30fps anymore even at lowest settings.
Upgrading prebuilts is a bad idea since you risk getting your new part destroyed by all the other cheap parts such as a bad power supply.
The only thing Costco has going for them is their customer service which should be good or their reputation for pc warranties will go down.
Past slickdeals like this
https://slickdeals.net/f/12715774-cyberpowerpc-gamer-master-gma1394a-desktop-ryzen-7-2700-16gb-ddr4-rtx-2070-240gb-ssd-2tb-hdd-liquid-cooling-800w-psu-win10h-1200-f-s?page=2
for 20 percent more cost gives way more value. This slickdeal gives you the rtx 2070 that can do 50 fps 4k vs the gtx 1060 at 27 fps 4k on fornite. That's about an 80% increase in fps on fornite 4k. This was from notebookcheck. For $200 more you get the latest generation gpu and much more fps.
For $1000 there's probably a prebuilt with a gtx 1070, 1070 ti, 1080 or rtx 2060 for this price.

What's infuriating is how ripped off this deal is compared to
https://slickdeals.net/f/10384832-acer-predator-vr-ready-desktop-pc-intel-core-i7-7700-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-8gb-32gb-ddr4-1tb-hd-256gb-ssd-win10-1099-costco-com?page=4
Keep in mind this previous slickdeal
1) is over a year old
2) is from the same retailer Costco
3) costs only $100 more
4) has twice the ram 32 gb
5) has the gtx 1070 instead of a 1060
Albeit the cpu is last gen and the quality of parts in either prebuilts are unknown which would take some searching.

Just spend some time asking the right questions from a lot sites like reddit, linus tech tips, toms guide, and other tech sites to get a good idea of whether or not this is a good deal and not get a bad deal.

You can check notebookcheck to find the performance of most gpus on different games. About 90 fps ultra 1080p.
This is a bad deal spec wise, building it yourself will be cheaper and you know the quality of the parts. If you don't want to build, see the previous expired but better deals linked in the previous comment.
Now don't be those tea bagging kids who need to assert their dominance after every kill.

If I'm not mistaken.. ibuypower uses standard pc parts.. like you would get building it yourself.

costco one is very weak ... don't get it it, only positive to costco is the warranty.
this from HP.com is much better same price. Costco isnt the best place for a PC... though sometimes they will have good deals its very rare, more laptops then desktops if anything.

though i was able to get the same series HP desktop with a Ryzen 7 2700, RX 580, 16 GB ram SSD and HDD from best buy for under 800. it comes on sale every once in a while. about once a month, it goes to 900, every other month goes to 800 or 850. keep checking slick deals it will be on sales don't settle, give it time.

For $1000 you can prob build your own with the similar specs but the i7 is why and bc of that its decent deal. if it was 900 it would be great.
