I have the Insignia 5L (just a tiny bit bigger). Its got 2 knobs, analog, for temp and timer. Works fine, and got it for $32 from Best Buy through Google Express a couple of weeks ago.

I must admit though, it's basically just a convection oven by a different name, which is fine I suppose. It tends to fill my kitchen with smoke at times when I've cooked bacon, but it's recommended to do 400 degrees for bacon and I believe the smoking point of bacon is much lower.

I usually do bacon at 325 in the normal oven and have a few times at the same in my generic air fryer.

You really should be doing your bacon at much lower and only raise it to 400 at the very end for crispness.

If it's curling, it's too hot.

You're right about air fryers being equivalent to convection ovens. If you can find a fry basket that will work with a convection oven, you basically have an air fryer for much less.

With that said, I would definitely not go under 6qt capacity for an air fryer — even if you're only cooking for one. The capacity is extremely misleading if you're doing anything besides cooking french fries.

Diameter of the basket is what matters, not depth.

I am guessing it is redundant to get the nuwave brio air fryer if you already have theNuwave oven pro infrared oven [nuwaveoven.com]? (It's supposed to Broil, Roast, Grill, Bake, Barbecue, Steam, Dehydrate AND Air-Fry, but i don't know if the air fry function is as good as this machine which is dedicated to just air frying?) Anyone have experience with both the nuwave oven and air fryer or any other air fryer?

Doesn't look like it works the same. Air fryers circulate from the top down, so you get consistent heat being brought down.

That's also where the heating element is, which is why it can be hard to gauge temperature for some recipes.
