Modem and router is with the main TV and ps4. So I'll hard wire those off of the x4.
yeah hardwiring will give you a much more stable connection plus lowest possible latency. And leaving wifi for the truly portable devices like phones, tablets and the like will be a smart move. no point in spending more money on a modem/router .

I need a deal on something to replace my SB6190 finally. It's served me well
You're 6190 is much newer and faster than this good 6183.

True but the 6190 has the infamous Puma 6 chipset though. Probably why he wants to replace it.

It's worth noting that Arris doesn't provide user-facing firmware updates. It leaves that in the hands of the carrier (typically Comcast), so you don't really know if your router is as well-protected as it could be, if the carrier isn't in a hurry to test the firmware or security upgrades on user equipment.

I have both 6190 and 6183, and I don't really notice much of a difference. There was a recent update back in August 2018 from Comcast that fixed a lot of the issues, albeit not perfect. If the issue was never reported, I would have not noticed any difference at all.

I got my SB6190 for $30 brand new from clearance at a local Target, so I decided to replace my 6183 with one of these.

I ran the Puma 6 testing through DSLReports and have found my ping to be below 50 with little lag spikes. The SB6190 is smaller form factor than SB6183.

So the question is, for 400Mbps service from Comcast, do I go with this or the $119.99 Netgear CM1100 on sale at Costco...

While SB6183 does work with 400mbps, it is not on the approved modem list from xfinity. You're better off with CM1100. My SB6183 worked with 400 mbps download, but I'm pretty sure at that point you're really testing the limits of that modem. I changed my modem to SB6190 after having headaches with my MB8600 docsis 3.1 modem and have no problem since.

My docsis 3.1 Motorola MB8600 drops connections with xfinity daily. Be prepared to have a headache in trying to get it to be stable and work well. I called Motorola and they said it was a known issue with xfinity and docsis 3.1 and that it is widespread for ALL docsis 3.1 modems, including CM1100. This could be area dependent.

I'm still waiting on xfinity to issue a fix in my area so docsis 3.1 modems can be reliably used without dropped connections daily. If you search online there are lots of people having this issue.

Another great alternative is to get the Netgear CM600. It is one of the very few retail modems that is compatible with 400mbps download speed that doesn't use PUMA 6 chipset, and has the more desirable Broadcom one.

Unless you're ponying up for 1gbit this should be plenty of modem.

I have little to no faith in Comcast or ATT upgrading in a timely manner so I'm fine with my cheap <1Gbit modem. IF the day ever comes I'll upgrade. Some have commented that these get warm so I have this and our WIFI router on a laptop cooler.

That's the exact one I have and I'm on 150 mbps. I'd say you're fine until WOW upgrades.

Opening the faucet more doesn't let in more internet. They have to supply it first.

I was using the SB6141 since 2012-2013 but was having some random disconnect issues occasionally. I forgot Spectrum had given me a Technicolor DPC3216 (16X4). I activated that today and seems solid.

I mean you're better off grabbing the Netgear cm600 for 74.99 or waiting for a good deal on a 3.1 but that's just me.
It looks like the CM600 is DOCSIS 3.0 and currently listed on Amazon for $100?

I have a SB6121 which caps out at about 120. Just picked this one up in hopes I can get closer to the 200 advertised speed Spectrum is supposed to offer in my area. If your ISP is only advertising 100 I would stay with the SB6141 as that one should give you 100 no problem.

At the time of that post it was 84.99 -10 coupon bringing it to 74.99. I said either getting that OR waiting for a 3.1 sale.

For Comcast this can only handle up to 300 mbps.
More like up to 500
