Posted in a previous thread:

These ADT sensors cannot be used with a standard, non-ADT ST hub. There will never be a workaround for this because it's a hardware issue (ADT uses a proprietary communication protocol with a different radio). This comes up every time these get posted so I figured I'd preempt the questions.

* With the exception of the water leak sensor which is compatible with both ADT and regular Smartthings hubs. But the water leak sensor is sold out (unless you buy the expansion kit which then includes smoke and CO alarms that are not compatible.)

The ADT Smartthings branded hub can accept all other non-ADT branded Smartthings-compatible devices and they integrate fine. However, only the ADT branded Smartthings accessories can be used for monitoring through ADT.

You do not need to purchase ADT monitoring with the ADT Smartthings branded hub. You can self-monitor through alerts.

I don't understand why they did not make these work with regular SmartThings hubs. 😪

ADT is a mistake. Their contracts are crazy. Playing on scare tactics. Go with Simplisafe or Ring or Nest. Save $

As a long-time owner of the regular Smartthings hub, I really recommend this ADT version of the hub, particularly if you do not yet have a regular Smartthings hub already. I use the regular Smartthings hub for basic home automation (turning lights on/off at sunset/sunrise, Alexa, etc.) You can do all that with this hub, but also have a better home security option. Even if you have the hub already, I think it's a fantastic upgrade to the ADT version, particularly if you buy the ADT door/window sensors plus motion detector now with this deal.

The ADT hub can use all the same sensors as normal Smartthings hub. As mentioned previously by others, the non-ADT sensors cannot be used to trigger security alerts. But you can do the normal home automation stuff still.

One of the most annoying things about the normal Smartthings hub is setting up something as simple as a door chime to let you know when a door has been opened. You can do it, but it involves buying a chime or speaker and then setting up a SmartApp to trigger rules you setup. Even after all of that, the chimes can be delayed quite a bit due to what I assume is the round-trip time taken onto the Internet and back (chimes stopped working for me when my Internet was down.)

The ADT system is much more responsive for detecting and acting on door/window open events, for example. The chime is instantaneous when you open a door (as you would expect). The normal Smartthings sensors plus SmartApps can be tortuously slow for such a simple thing. I suspect part of the hardware differences between the ADT and normal Smartthings sensors/hub is the special care taken to make sure that as much is done locally as possible.

The ADT hub makes having a basic security + home automation system much simpler.

Just got the ADT starter pack from Amazon a few days ago. Perfect time for these to go on sale! You may want to mention the other ADT things on sale too.

Anyone know how long this deal will last? Recently had my credit card stolen and waiting for the new to be shipped out so can't make online purchases yet.
Best Buy's Ad sales usually start Sundays so this could go through the week or till they run out.

Perfect timing! Is there a limit to the number of door sensors the hub can manage?
