I don't want to go somewhere that I'm going to be a target of crime. If you are OK with that, then more power to you.

I went to Italy last year and had a great time.

It's basically the same as Italy, keep your stuff near you and you will be ok. Spain and Italy have the same problems with pick pockets.

Barcelona is a beautiful city, highly recommend it

Where did you get that information from? Was in Spain last fall and traveled with my family to Madrid and Barcelona with no issues. Every time there's a Spain travel thread someone raises this safety/security issue with no source or proof. 🙄. I have no idea why

You've never been to Spain, have you?

Which is good. Please stay in Utah, the center of the known Universe and all that is good and holy. Spain doesn't need any more dumb tourists. Honestly, it doesn't. Being one of the best kept secrets on Earth seems to suit them well.
