I have the same setup except my house is a balsamic vinaigrette style house.

For those that are wondering if the product is worth it or not, I can tell you that after reading a lot of forums I decided to purchase the Cloud Key, POE Switch, USG, and a couple of access points. I am going to purchase one of the AC Lites for my basement as an additional AP, but it is really overkill as I purchased two of the HD on sale last week. I have one on the second floor and one on the first floor of my house. I have a 3600 square foot home and if you count the basement you can add another 1800 square feet. I currently have good coverage throughout the home but some spots of the basement are a little weaker than I care for them to be. I have approximately 20 wireless devices connected to my system when my kids are all home and 7 wired. I have had it all up and running for four days now and not one single time has anybody in the house had a drop as they move through the house. The hand-off while moving through the house has been wonderful. It has been so nice to go a day without hearing my family b*tch about an internet drop. My wireless printer even seems to function quicker and more consistently. It was not even that hard to set up, and I am not a person whom commands are a great understanding of these things. I can tell you that I watched some videos by a man who has a business doing this work "Crosstalk Solutions". He has a complete out of the box through to complete install video along with many others that explain the products, what they do, and why you need them. I would have purchased through his links as a way of saying thanks for the videos, but there have been so many deals on here for all the different products lately that I saved a lot of money by not buying through his affiliate links. I have learned so much from the SD community on so many different topics, I hope my experience on this topic is helpful to someone.

My house is wired for internet and my router is in the basement (ranch style house) and the place my wife uses the internet the most is on the opposite end from the router. I was told to get an access point and hook it into the house networking cable and it would greatly increase my wifi. Originally I was looking at a TP Link Access Point (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0XZ...66&psc=0), but I have heard great things about Ubiquiti AP's.
I will not be mounting the AP as I will just either sit it on the desk or put it under the desk where the laptop is.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The one you were told to get is easier to set up and has more throughput than the ubiquiti lite AP, so as much as I love ubiquiti gear, that TP-Link is what I'd recommend for your scenario.

Just curious about why you thought this. I'm in a similar situation as the post you replied to. I do have an ethernet cable that runs to the opposite end of the house where the Wi-Fi deadzone is.

An access.point is the right answer when you have too much distance or barriers preventing the wireless signal from reaching the place where you need it. Since you already have ethernet cabling, it should be easy to install.
You might consider two access points in lieu of using your current wireless router since the ubiquiti access points will hand off the work to one another as you walk across the house, essentially connecting your device to the best signal regardless of where you are in the house.
