Hello, I hope you are doing well.

I have tested or used 13 different bath towels between 2015 and 2019. Of the utmost importance to me are lack of lint-shedding, lack of color-bleeding, and overall feel.

Bottom Line
My #1 pick, Ralph Lauren Lawton, seems to be discontinued as of 2017. My #2 pick, Fieldcrest Reserve, is readily available at Target.com for a low regular price of $12.99 as of 2018 and 2019. As such, Fieldcrest Reserve is my main recommendation.

Rankings
  1. (discontinued) Ralph Lauren Lawton Bath Towel (Horchow)
    • No lint-shedding; no color-bleeding
  2. Fieldcrest Reserve Bath Towel (Target)
    • Almost no lint-shedding; feels like high quality
  3. Croft & Barrow Quick-Drying Bath Towel (Kohl's)
    • This is a niche pick: It is thin, but dries quickly
  4. Loftex Loft Luxe Bath Towel (Costco Wholesale)
    • Moderate lint-shedding; plush
  5. Calvin Klein Plush Bath Towel (Bon-Ton)
    • Moderate lint-shedding; plush
  6. Charisma Soft 100% Hygro Cotton Bath Towel (Costco Wholesale)
    • Moderate to high lint-shedding; somewhat plush
  7. IZOD Performance Bath Towel (Macy's)
  8. Simply Vera Vera Wang Pure Luxury Bath Towel (Kohl's)
    • Moderate lint-shedding; plush
  9. Croft & Barrow Solid Bath Towel (Kohl's)
  10. SONOMA life + style Ultimate Performance Bath Towel (Kohl's)
  11. Lacoste Match Cotton Colorblocked Bath Towel (Macy's)
    • Significant lint shedding; significant color-bleeding
  12. Lacoste Legend Supima Cotton Bath Towel Collection (Macy's)
    • Significant lint shedding; significant color-bleeding
  13. Home Expressions Solid Bath Towels (JCPenney)
    • Rough (feels like low quality)
Testing Methodology
  • Wash one towel and one alternate-color cloth in a high efficiency (HE) washing machine.
  • The alternate-color cloth is to test for potential color-bleeding and to identify lint-shedding.
  • Each wash includes ECOS hypoallergenic natural liquid laundry detergent.
  • Additional washes, if necessary, include the same detergent and one cup of distilled white vinegar.
    • It should not be expected of the average consumer to use vinegar, so I only do it for latter washes.
  • Note: My more recent tests no longer include color-bleeding examinations due to exclusively purchasing towels in colors that aren't heavily dyed.
On the Radar: To be Tested
  • Matouk Lotus Bath Towel (Bloomingdale's)
  • Frontgate Resort Cotton Bath Towel (Frontgate)
  • Fieldcrest Spa Solid Bath Towel (Target)
I test a lot of household goods for my own usage. If this type of short article is helpful to you, please leave a comment and a thumbs up, and I'll write more of them.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Very helpful-I noticed these towels at my sister's and thought they were very nice.
Any info on nice cotton sheets or mattress pads? I need some wedding gifts soon. I have a huge merchandise credit to use up at Kohls. TIA

Hi. I'm glad this was helpful.

My two favorite sheets are:
I'm super happy with my Purple mattress, so I have no need for a mattress pad for added comfort. If you are looking for a mattress protector to protect against spills and accidents, however, I can make a recommendation.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

I've always used a heavy cotton pad with generous skirt so it fits well and stays put, just to have the cotton to absorb sweat and easy to wash. Especially over memory foam since it does not breath. I don't want anything waterproof. I'm waiting on eluxury to have their $30 mfr defect sale but they still haven't run it again. I missed it everytime last year...
