Introducing the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant Browser Extension

Always see the best deals wherever you shop online

Add to Chrome

Welcome to Slickdeals' OPEN BETA of our new browser extension

We believe that we can help shoppers save everywhere, so we wanted to build a browser extension that lets you bring Slickdeals with you when you shop online. You can see all the best deals when you go to your favorite online stores, conveniently see the Slickdeals communities' comments and details with our Deal Sidebar, and when you checkout, the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant will automatically try the latest coupon codes for you.

Keep in mind this browser extension is still in beta, so we need your help in giving us feedback so we can continue to make the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant more useful to you. We're looking for feature requests, feedback, suggestions, and bugs, so if you have any please add them to this forum! Thanks!

See The Best Deals When Browsing on a Merchant's Site

When you shop at one of our supported stores, clicking on the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant will reveal all of the store's current best deals and coupons.

Take Slickdeals With You

With the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant, when you click on a Frontpage deal, we'll take you directly to the merchant's site and open the Deal Sidebar, where you can see the deal details, editor's notes, vote, read all of the comments from the Slickdeals community, right on the merchant's site. No more having to swap back and forth between tabs!

No Need to Search for Coupons

When you checkout online, the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant will try all the latest active coupon codes to save you the most money on your purchase!

Additional Features

  • Quick access to Frontpage deals as soon as you open your browser
  • Highlight text and right-click to Search Slickdeals any time you're browsing online
  • Highlight text and right-click to Create deal alerts from anywhere on the web
  • Instantly comment and vote on deals while you're shopping at your favorite online stores
  • New features released every week!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What browsers does the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant work on?

The Slickdeals Shopping Assistant currently only works on the Chrome browser. We are adding the Slickdeals Shoppping Assistant to Firefox and Safari soon, so stay tuned!

How does the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant work?

After you've installed the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant, shop online as you normally would. If it's one of our supported stores (we're adding more support for stores every week), then clicking on the Slickdeals extension icon will pull down all of the current deals for that site. Also, when you click on a deal on Slickdeals.net, you'll take the deal details with you in our Deal Details Sidebar, where you can vote, view comments, and contribute to the community. When you checkout, you'll be given the option to let the Shopping Assistant automatically apply the latest coupon codes to save you the most money on your purchase. We're adding more features weekly, and want to get your feedback so we can continue to help you be smart online shoppers!

Who was invited to this private beta?

We started with a limited beta group consisting of power users, long time members, and some new members so that we would get feedback from a broad range of users. We want to hear your feedback, so leave your comments below!

The Slickdeals Shopping Assistant doesn't support a website I shop at, what should I do?

We're adding more supported stores to the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant every week, but if there's a website that you shop at often that you wish was supported, leave a comment below!

Does the Slickdeals Shopping Assistant track my personal info?

Your privacy and security is extremely important to us. When you first install the extension, we ask for permission to view and interact with the websites you visit. This is necessary so that we can show things like deals and fill coupons for you. Rest assured, that we only trigger our extension when browsing a supported store's site. We DO NOT collect any personal information unless you explicitly give it to us (like your email when you register). We do collect information from retail websites like price or product information, whether the coupons were successful or not, the total amount saved, or product related searches so we can show you relevant Slickdeals. This information is used for the purpose of making Slickdeals and the extension a better experience for you (like using whether a coupon was successful to rank coupons, or future features like price drop notifications). The list of online stores we currently support can be found here.

Does it work on classic?

Sorry! We're only supporting the Redesign version of Slickdeals right now.

Where can I submit bugs, feature suggestions, or any other feedback?

Since you've been invited to the beta, you'll be able to see a new Beta Testing Forum where it would be best to create new threads for each bug or feature request you have! General comments and discussion can happen right here in this thread.

You're missing that info in the main post.

Rant incoming:

This might be an unpopular opinion, and maybe not the right time or place to say it and this might get me banned, but I dont know if I trust Slickdeals anymore, and installing an add-on has the potential to give away a lot of privacy, as well as the obvious affiliate linking/code on any purchases possible. Over the years Slickdeals has seemed more and more shady, certain brands and retailers making the FP with low feedback and questionable 'deals'. often coming from SD staff, competing websites and certain brands being banned for 'reasons'. I realize this is a for profit company, and its clearly grown over the years, but my trust of it has decreased, as often I feel like I am seeing ads and not legitimate user posted deals.

Now to be clear, I dont exactly trust companies like Honey, or Amazon's add-on to not infringe on my privacy and collect data. And if I thought Slickdeals was completely awful I wouldnt be here right now, I still browse, and I certainly use the search to look for coupons and items I might need or want. I just personally dont want a slickdeals add-on looming over my browser, and it doesnt make me feel any better that SD's declined to accept GDPR (site isnt EU focused, but GDPR is a big step towards respecting user privacy).

I say this because years ago when I first came to SD's I was stoked (this is my second account, as I forgot the login to the first), downloaded the app when it first came out, and wouldve gotten the add-on back in those days if possible too, but ive since deleted the app, and have mixed feelings about the site. I hope things change for the better, but I understand that the things I am complaining about are bringing in more revenue.

First, I want to thank everyone who will install and try out our brand new browser extension. We think it has the potential to do some really great things for our users.

That being said, this is a brand new endeavor for us and this is a beta release so you might find a few bugs here or there. If you could, please bear with us and report them in this forum --- we'll work to fix things quickly. During this beta, you will see us make regular updates, as well as work with you here in this forum to take your feedback, refine ideas, and release cool stuff.

We're also looking for your feedback to help us shape the future of what this tool can do for you. So if you have any particular suggestions or feature requests, please let us know. We want to hear from you and want to make this extension work for you!

We have plans to create some nifty functionality that will make your life easier, both on and off Slickdeals. Our goal is to make the process of finding deals and deciding whether to buy a much better and hassle-free experience. The deal details sidebar and the coupon auto applier are just the tip of the iceberg - but are really cool first steps: now getting in on a deal is easier and faster than ever. It currently only works on the frontpage, but would love to hear what you think about that particular feature too.

In the future I can see us releasing features around better browser notifications for deal alerts and price drops or even Slickdeals site features like the ability to easily post deals from any merchant site, or sort the frontpage by score on demand. Got an idea? Let us know! The possibilities are endless and we are making the extension for you, the Slickdeals community, so I hope that you let us know what excites and interests you the most! Our goal is to make sure the extension is a tool that you find valuable. Please try it out and let us know what you think!

Sure, I will give a go and let you know what I think. If it saves me money then I am all for it. Just don't save any of the information about how much I spend.

How will I get back to this page when I am ready to submit additional comments?

While I have your ear, please make your android app less resource intensive. I have tried it a few time on different phones and I always end up deleting it because I experience poor battery life after I have installed the SlickDeals app. Once the app is removed, my battery life is back to how it was before the app was installed.

Thanks for trying it out. I'll send your feedback onto the App team Smilie they'll probably want to know what device you have etc.

This thread is now visible in a "Beta Testing Forum" when you go to Forums, and we realized there's no easy way in the extension, so thanks for the idea, we'll add a link inside the extension soon.

Hi Guys,
Few thoughts
(1) Am also concerned about privacy and unwanted supervision and tracking. SD, please comment about this, essix8 present valid concerns.
(2) Not interested in unwanted deals, but only items which have been tagged or categories, such as, Monitors or Kitchen Knives, etc., Random items are not appreciated,
(3) Have disabled multiple extensions due to conflicts with other extensions or with chrome. It may take time to avoid these, but this route is far better than a diminished reputation,.

Just added the extension and boom, spam mail from an Amazon award or fake Amazon award provider. Coincidence? Don't think so. What do you say Slickdeals?

That's a bit ambiguous to assume SD had anything to do with that?

----------
Your post aside, privacy is my biggest concern, I have read through SD's privacy policy and I don't know how I really feel about using this add-on although if we can square away some of the key privacy issues of collecting and selling data then we can move forward. I think the add-on has potential, I like it so far, it's pretty much like having SD in a tab on my browser, I like viewing the deal(s) and reading the comments as well as having the ability to comment directly from the add-on. I don't like that it doesn't regularly refresh, I was sitting on a news website for awhile and noticed it didn't refresh the deals unless the page was refreshed, it might be nice to have a refresh function in the add-on itself.

Is there a way to get personalized deals and deal-alerts through this add-on?

--
Crap, I can only go directly to the deal link instead of viewing the deal thread in the add-on itself. I swear one time I was looking at a miniature version of the SD website in the add-on itself, like the comments were small, there was an option to comment, but I tried it again and I can't replicate it. I want to view the comments, not just go directly to the deal (I messed around the with the extension options, didn't make a difference). A little confused tbh.

There's a lot of stuff in this comment so let me try to respond to some key points Smilie

1) I'm sorry you feel like Slickdeals is more "shady" but the reality is that our frontpage is still controlled by our deal editors, who are people we promote from our community who really know deals. Often times, they promote content they think is a good deal based on prior historical data and past performance but the community sentiment is always changing. They're not perfect, but they are usually really good at finding the best deals. I will agree that sometimes deals just dont get traction, but I can guarantee you that's not because we're trying to push crap to you guys. I think the takeaway for me in order to improve transparency and trust with the community is to have the deal editors do a better job of explaining why they promoted it to the frontpage. You might not realize it, but they are actually doing a lot of research to ensure its a really good deal.

2) It is definitely no secret that retailers are aware of us, and that they actually reach out to our deal editors with deals. We actually don't allow merchants to post directly on slickdeals because they would clutter the forums, so instead they submit them to the deal editors who vett those deals. Usually those deal editors are working on the community's behalf in terms of giving feedback to merchants about what might make a deal successful. That being said, the deal editors do post deals but only because they think its a good one.

3) Slickdeals is actually a small company. When GDPR came out in Europe, we were aware but chose not to do all the development and work required to comply with GDPR because it was a huge burden for us, whereas we received almost no EU traffic. However, we are now in the process of putting together some GDPR-like privacy compliance systems in place, due to the upcoming "California GDPR" that is set to be in effect in 2020.

I know you're taking our word when I say this, but we're not selling your data, and our privacy policy should reflect this. We are collecting data around app usage, behavior, and interests so that we can provide a better experience for you. What does this actually mean in practice? For instance, the browser asks for permission to see and interact with the sites you visit. This doesn't actually mean we're doing that with every website you visit. First the extension has to be able to see what website you're on. It then checks to see if its a supported store (ie newegg.com vs cnn.com) so in order to do that check, we check the domain of the site you're visiting. We then need to be able to interact with that page in order for us to popup a window, show you offers, fill in coupons, detect prices, and personalize content. We also figure out which parts of the extension you use the most, or we also track which coupons were successful and which didnt, so that we can improve the algorithm around trying coupons. All of this data is used purely within Slickdeals only, for the purpose of making your experience better.

We -do not- sell your data to third parties.

1) Made a comment that is hopefully helpful in response to essix8
2) Are you asking for the ability to filter deals when presented on a merchant's site? Currently we're trying to show the best deals available when browsing someone's site, ie if you're at newegg.com and click on our extension, we'll show you the top deals that Slickdealers have found for Newegg.
3) What kind of conflicts are you talking about? Are you referencing like popping up on top of each other? Can you give us an example of the types of other extensions you use that might interfere? does this actually happen from you now?

Thanks for your comments and feedback Smilie

Dealrunner1337 - Thanks for your feedback. I understand your concern about privacy, and made a comment above in response to these general concerns, but I hope you can trust us that we're trying to create a great product that provides value to you, but in this particular case the data is necessary for us to enable those cool features. Things like being able to show you the best deals when on a merchant's website means that we need to know when you're on that merchant's website. Being able to autofill coupons means that we need to be able to interact with the page, and try and understand if the coupon is the best one to fill. It also means that in order to improve the coupon success rate, we have to report back to our system whether or not the coupon was successful. These are the types of things we're doing with the extension when it comes to data. But we do not, and will not, sell any of this data to third parties.

I'm really glad you like the deal details sidebar feature that allows you to view the slickdeals content when on a merchant's site, its one of the most convenient and exciting features we've got in this first release! Your suggestion for making the content (frontpage deals) auto-refresh is totally valid and a great idea, so we'll work on adding that to our roadmap.

And yes, we do plan on adding features around browser notifications for deal alerts, as well as personalizing deals powered by the extension as well, so you're reading our mind and its awesome to hear that you have similar ideas about how this could be really useful for you!

Regarding your edit: there's a couple of ways it should work:

1) if you click out from slickdeals.net on a frontpage deal, we show a mini version of deal details on the side of the merchant's page. Here you can view the deal, read the comments, vote, add comments etc.

2) If you are browsing around, and not on slickdeals, you can click the extension icon and we'll either show you deals for the store you're looking at, or if you're not on a supported store, we'll show you all frontpage deals.
