Thanks for posting this. I'm looking a 9600k for $229. Now it makes my decision more difficult. Maybe we see Intel prices lowering in the next months.

Yeah the F's in theory should be lower in price. The 9700KF should be in physical stores soon. At least where I'm at in Houston area. Our Frys will have them in about 2 weeks from what I heard. But the problem with the pricing is it comes down to what the retailer wants to charge. There's an article that has the 2019 CPU lineup of the F's from intel.

Ryzen 5 2600 is only 5% slower on average, always around $160 price mark. I like Ryzen cooler much more than stock Intel cooler. Ryzen has 12 threads though, good for professionals, streamers.... Intel feels a bit snappier , just a feel, otherwise the same. Ryzen comes with free Division 2, useful to some. i5-9400F may need most likely a BIOS update for H310/B360 boards, most AMD boards are up todate for 2600 now.

The is a better deal if you are a gamer, and Ryzen is much more sensitive to RAM speed. For the easiest and fastest gaming build, id go with this CPU everytime.

for gaming is it worth it to spend more for the 9600K?

I agree, Intel is easier to deal with and consistent in gaming, no overclock involved, all my personal builds (except 2400G) are Intel based. But I support AMD as much as I can because they are the only reason we don't have i5-9400F with 4 cores at $300 price mark now.

Maybe, if you are gunning for the top level video card, otherwise GPU will most likely limit your gaming performance. You will also want a more expensive Z370/390 board to go with it, a cooler of some sort (no stock cooler) and maybe a faster RAM too, since 9600K can support it. So it will be a better and considerably more expensive system at the end, plus overclock....

I got this processor with a z390 mobo and ddr4-3000 corsair ram for $330.

I like it, im running it alongside a rtx 2070 at 1440p ultra and no bottle necks yet.

Remember this cpu runs at 3.9ghz when using all 6 cores. I was able to boost the bclk to overclock it to 4ghz which is the max you can ever get since its locked.

if you game at 1080p and use anything like a gtx 1080 or higher id suggest getting something a little more like the 8700, 8700k, 9700k
