You have to give a credit card and agree to pay $4.99 from the second month onwards, but you can immediately go into your account and cancel automatic renewals so you get your one month free with no risk.

Good way to get your feet wet with the Plex Pass features. OTA DVR and mobile sync is what I use the most.

Absolutely! I recommend doing that immediately because we are human and will absolutely forget. If you like it enough to keep it, it's just as easy to re-subscribe.

Could this prevent you from being able to get future $75 promos for lifetime pass for those that have never had Plex Pass?

Never heard of Plex.

Is this like Uber?
Plex is a client-server media player system and software suite comprising two main components. The Plex Media Server desktop application runs on Windows, macOS and Linux-compatibles including some types of NAS devices.

Is this loading your media into their cloud server?

Not sure. Considering how random those promotional emails are, it's hard to tell what logic they use to send them out. I remember getting in on a 3 month Plex Pass and it took a long time to get the promotional email for $75.

Is it rare for Plex to offer a free trial? Seems like a lot of companies do this.

Good lookin' out. I've added the link to cancel renewal to the original post but I'll put it here too:

Yeah, it's relatively rare. They typically do this one in March to get people interested in the DVR stuff with March Madness going on, and they may have one more throughout the year, but they really don't offer free trials very often.

What you'll find is a buggy DVR and not much support from Plex. I think Plex is fine to stream most on the shelf videos, however if you're planning to use it for a DVR be prepared for dealing with lots of bugs and wasted time as Plex support is not very responsive.

Update: Functionality and features of Plex in regards to OTA recordings is inferior to even the old Windows Media Center I'm running on my Windows 7 HTPC since 2010.. Very disappointing. I have 2 - HDHomeRun dual network tuners (4 tuners total). Recording 1 channel at 1080p will work the cpu to 70% (Intel G3420) on my Xpenology NAS that hosts the Plex server. I am running the same processor/mb/ram on my Win7 HTPC as my Xpenology server. Plex's Guide/recordings Interface is a bit buggy, during recording of 1 show, when trying to just watch another channel sometimes it will error for "Could not Tune Channel. Please check your tuner or antenna". When the recording stops, it still shows the error even when none of the tuners are being used. The only way to get Plex to recognize the tuners again is to stop and restart the Plex server on my Xpenology. I can launch Windows media Center on my Win7 machine and would work perfectly using one of the 4 available tuners. Also I am able to record using all 4 tuners at once with my Win7 MC without dropped frames/studders/maxing out cpu.

Recording quality is not on par with my old Windows 7 media Center either. Output is fuzzier and shows interlaced lines/blocky pictures compared to my old Win7 MC that's been running since 2010. These defects definitely shows when watching any type of sports or fast movements. Recording file size is also way larger with the mentioned inferior quality. 30min of Plex recording is 3.5GB while same exact recording on my Win7 MC is 2.5GB in size.

I was hoping the Tuner part of the Plex Premium would work for me since I have no issues at all with the playback quality and features using Plex on existing media files. The huge issue lies in the live OTA broadcast watching/recording.

I'm glad I got to try out Plex Premium before buying the lifetime membership.
