Was at the HD and saw the 70 QT Pelican cooler for $255.

Seems like a good deal. It's cheaper than the pelican elite 65qt cooler I got from costco years ago.

This newer generation of pelican coolers is injection molded. The previous gen was roto molded. Both are tanks made in the U.S.A that will last you a long time.

Lots near me. Shows just as "clearance" for the price. If it is 255$ seems about 100$ cheaper than anywhere else currently...

If that's the cooler game, I don't need to play. I don't camp with bears, or anyone else who throws or jumps on coolers regularly. My CHEAP Coleman Extreme 5-day keeps stuff cold for 3-4 days in summer heat, 5 if I start with a slab of dry ice in the bottom.

Comparing a Coleman to this is like comparing a Char-Broil grill to a Weber grill

It's heat or cold retention as th main factor for these prices. Longer trips wouldn't need new ice etc. It's a rabbit hole as is most things now.

Some people are satisfied with 3-4 days and some people want 7-8 days.

Your cheap Coleman cooler is cheap for a reason. But if a weekend is all you need, then there is no reason to spend more on better coolers.

When we would taking remote fishing trips we would bury the Coleman cooler in the shade about 3/4 of the way. Lay some pine branches over the top for added insulation. 7-8 days no problem.

Use gallon jugs for blocks of ice.

Save big money!
