BB wouldn't price match:

I have checked on the link you have shared. I am extremely sorry to inform you that this website doesn't have any store within 25 miles from your zip code.

for most things, the 50mm stm 1.8 is a more versatile lens with a larger aperture for low light situations, but has been commented that the 40mm f/2.8 focuses a little faster and obviously is slightly wider view. I have a crop sensor so went for the 24mm f/2.8 EF-S lens for a few bucks less than this for when I want to go wider and slower

This lens is sharp. I have this and the 50mm STM as well.

If i had to choose one, i would get the 50mm because its faster. I rearely shoot wide open because its not super sharp, but its handy when the light is low.

White version is same price on Ebay, less with coupon if you can wait.

Canon 40mm STM - White [ebay.com]

Great lens to get into primes. Bad thing is you might catch a bug and the kit lens will appear to look crap.
