Why does the listing say $579$259? The starting MSRP was only $479 and the slightly more expensive $499 MSRP Elite LSX-LX103 been regularly selling for $299 at Best Buy [bestbuy.com]for awhile now.

They are nearly identical units [soundandvision.com] except the VSX has a 1 year warranty and the LSX has a 3 year warranty.

It is pretty shady marketing to make people think they are getting $320 in savings. This is maybe a $20-40 savings at most compared to normal prices.

Funny, I've had two Denon and each died after 6 years of service. I switched to a Pioneer and I find that it sounds better and yields a richer picture than the Denon. Too soon to know how long it will last but I think these electronics are no longer built to last.

I've owned four Pioneer receivers of different models. Three of them died with HDMI board failures while connected to completely different devices. All of them were well protected from electrical surges and other potential gremlins. When they worked, they worked well. But then suddenly they would inexplicably simply fail. When my last Elite failed after exactly one year, I finally switched to Denon and have never looked back.

Tl;Dr; I wouldn't bother with Pioneer even if they gave them away free. That may sound harsh, but...

See now, I've only owned Pio's,mostly the Elite series, and have been very happy, love the app for customization, and my downstairs lx-801 powers a monstrous set of Polk SRT's and the sound is cinema quality. Just my 2 cents.

I got this receiver for $400 (with a $130 gift card) a few months ago from new egg

Setup is super easy with the included microphone. I run a Dolby atmos setup through it (5.2.2) . Really have no complaints about this reciever. Sound is great, handles everything I throw at it.

Really is a steal at this price with all the features it has.

As long as your running a 7.2 or Atmos 5.1.2 / 5.2.2 its a great receiver

Wonder if this can be used for both home theatre with surround sound speakers and karaoke with dedicated karaoke loud speakers?
